I've looked into it a bit more and I think I will go with spartan level 3 plus steel with the full spall protection coating. What's your opinion on side plates? I can't decide if they'd be worth the added cost.

Yeah, get side plates

Also, what kind of helmet are you going with? Also, I assume that you have your NV and thermal lined out as to how it will interact with the rest of your gear.

I leaning towards steel mainly because of the price. My primary purpose for wanting a setup is because I (a highschooler) am/was very unimpressed with how school admin and police handled a credible threat, in addition to them covering up two separate incidents of students plotting to choot up the school. I'd like to have something that would stay in the truck in case of emergency that would allow me to get away on foot, or if necessary render aid. I watched what happened down in Texas a couple years back, how police waited around outside and it absolutely ticks me off and makes me wonder how I personally can prepare to defend myself and my classmates, should something happen and police drop the ball.

Once you get out you stay out. fantasy land about geting to your truck. Get to the truck and drive away.

Shoot some rounds into books and see how well they get stopped. Keeping your backpack full of books and between you and any threat is your best bet in this unlikely situation to shield your get away.

Don't stay limited to doors thinking to get away bust or open any windows and get out . It's always good to have a plan and have I thought out but make it realistic and simple as possible.

Oh, that is different than the scenario I thought you were talking about. For what you described you do not need armor, once you make it to your truck deploy what is known as geographic armor and get out of the threat zone all together. Once you are out of the threat zone do not reenter for any reason it will not end well. Imagine you are running around in a plate carrier all kitted up, what is that going to look like to the law enforcement officers that make entry on the incident. Once again, once you are out stay out and distance yourself from the threat area.
