Looks like a hen to me, but your turkeys are different than ours in the northeast.

Tough call without others around it to compare to size wise.By the spurs I'm guessing jake.A legal spring bird either way here in Maine.

Bearded Hen, no color red or blue of any kind from what I see. This time of year all Toms young or old should be wearing some colors to see.

Our birds here are all offspring of Osceola restockings made by Florida FWC in the 70s and 80s (the reason for the long legs and black primary wing feathers.) Many from south Florida were released in the state line border counties in northern Florida and made their way into deep South Ga mostly via river corridors. Georgia DNR has never restocked turkeys this far south to my knowledge. Closest restocking of Easterns occurred about an hour north of here in the late 90s.

NWTF consider turks here an integrade between Easterns and Osceolas....but they are definitely more genetically Osceolas here near the state line.

Georgia DNR did capture turkeys near here and restocked areas up state. I know that because Im the one that baited em up & helped set the cannon net. I touched the wires to the battery that morning and we boxed up 16 hens and 1 jake for transport. Captured 4 adult gobblers later that week too.

BTW...that was one of many highlights of my GW career....and it was the last turkey capture-restock event (that Im aware of) that occurred in southern Georgia. This was in the late 90s.

DR is correct. That's not a spur. I think that is an object on the ground but pic makes it look like a spur.

Only gobblers are legal here in Georgia. Bearded hens are NOT legal. And we have no fall turkey season.

In addition, the property where these pics are being taken is "closed" for the 2025 turkey season. I've already killed my limit of 2 gobblers there and no one else will be granted access there this year.

In Galliformes and in pigeons, males typically have a more upright, vertical stance and hens carry themselves more horizonrally, with heads held lower. Males typically have blockier heads and coarser features. Males typically have more color in the wattles and ceres. The bird in the first picture appears to definitely be a bearded hen.
