I remember years before my Fathers passing, him talking about a man he was buying obsolete and hard to find Winchester gun parts from. He probably mentioned Freds name but at the time it meant nothing to me. I do remember him saying the mans inventory of parts was massive. My Father collected, bought, sold or traded anything Winchester and Savage for over 55 years. The last 20 years he focused on Model 88's although for his own hunting needs he favored the Model 100. When he passed in 2005 he passed down 2 complete sets, each caliber in both carbine and rifle, one set to my son and one set to my daughter. They still have them. My son loves the 358's and has harvested a couple of moose with them.

Your very welcome. When I moved to Silver Ridge 26 years ago I pawned a gun to Fred so I could buy my now wife an engagement ring.Fred was quite the character and is sadly missed.

Ihad a good tech college teaching friend that took 4 trips to Montana to finally get his really nice big 6 by 6 bull elk. That elk cost him over 200K as he needed to build a bigger house to put the mount up! This was in the late 19902s when you could get a pretty nice house in WI for 200K. I am different then he is. I caught a 50.5 inch 32Ls. muskie and mounted that and put it in my basement. we each make different choices in life.

Maybe the bull elk just sensed you weren’t the alpha in the situation…

Man dear alive Bruce. What a lifetime of adventure and achievement. I'd love to hear some of the stories from these sometime. I'm brand new to trapping and only a couple years into hunting (just one small buck so far, I rarely stand hunt over bait I still hunt and passed on a doe last year) but it's all I want to do anymore. Thanks for sharing this picture.
