Good reading- it just confirms what I already guessed which is that the females of any species have one heck of a time just makin their minds up.

What"s good for me may not be good for the weak minded.

You can quadruple that for wolves.

Just imagine finding a fresh set of her tracks and making a set when she made her initial push, lol.

I wonder if the trauma of the initial capture and collar had any impact on her travel and seeking out such a remote and less favorable site?

The researcher effect triggering and amplifying the already known skittishness of the subject?

I mean coyotes are already borderline paranoid.

I wonder, upon initial capture, how you would know that this is a “transient female”.
Seemed upon reading the article that lots of assumptions were made by the biologist?

Well, she also named her test subject with an “empowering” name, so…..

I think that researcher lady is gonna be the next butterfly biologist for some state agency.

Naming that coyote was the 1st clue.

Just wondering what kind of "permission" they had on this property. If it was me and I had real permission to access the property and retrieve the collar I think I would have used the "UTV trail" that went practically to it according to the article rather than boating in as far as I could, then wading and hiking what she considers a considerable ways to reach the trail and then hiking it on in.

By her description of coyotes and their behaviors, it sounds like another bunny hugger who makes it up as they go along.
