Being very windy today on top of having to hunt public land the birds were not vocal at all where we were. But made friends with a really nice prairie king snake. Helped him across the road so no one would flatten him on purpose.

I hate those things, but they rank one spot below chiggers for me. I had a liberal coating of 40% deet on and so far have not found any of those nasty blood suckers.

That’s awful. It’s a terrible undignified way to die and a waste. I know many trappers who have swerved to avoid hitting animals that they otherwise pursue.

Our snakes have been out for a while. They don’t like snakes on the plantation so I’ll relocate them to my yard. Well I got a call today when the wife went to get an extension cord out of the outside locker…apparently one of my corn snakes decided to make that his home. I don’t know if she was madder at me or the snake that scared her. I told her I relocated him to the bottom only the container and just to lift the lid slowly and if he’s back up top to just slightly nudge him and he’ll slither on down to the bottom again, lol.

Was on a motorcycle trip a few years ago and took a break at a very old cemetery. Walked around reading the dates and etc on the stones and noticed I had a 5' pine snake following me. I left it alone but it still followed me the cemetery for the next 45 minutes. On my return trip I stopped at the local gas station and told the attendant about my new friend. She said that snake had been there for a few years and would show up whenever anyone stopped by the cemetery. Made it interesting whenever they had a funeral!

Glad you helped that guy across the road. I'm friends with snakes also. Always nice to see the bull snakes each year. They keep the rodents in check along with the weasel. I go out of my way to help them and protect them if I can.

I am a snake person until you get to the poisonous ones. If they are at a distance they are fine, but if I had to deal with them in regularly in close proximity then I would be packing a Judge loaded with bird shot.
