brother in law is over 6' and was driving a short t post and pulled the driver to high off the post an flames the edg of the top of the post when he brought it down resulting in the driver tipping back and splitting his head open and a tip to the ER.

While him and my mother in law were I. the ER they brought in a 4 year old girl riped apart by a pit. She died. Apparently the baby sitter ran a pit rescue. The baby sitter had a heart attack and died also. Not sure if she had the heart attack before the attack or any other details other than when the mother got to the er and broke down it was hard to listen to.

This was on wensday. And why regardless of what or how great a pit may be I myself won't have one near me. They have their place for their job kiling hogs and such but they are not ment for any inexperienced handler like typically end up with them.

Run a rescue bleeding heart and now you and the kid are dead. And got to wonder about the mom's ability to mother to leave her kid in that environment.

Edit looked it up was the 53 year old grandmother watching the kid. 6 pits and a poodle mix for 7 dogs. Little girl died at the hospital. very sad situation and 100% avoidable.

That’s……….real interesting Keith………lol. Careful with numbers, when used properly they don’t lie. But I’m sure we’re all aware how numbers can be used to push a certain perspective, but most see right through them.

I’ve tangled with a few in my travels and for the most part they’re actually all bark, just gotta know how to handle them. But there’s 2 or 3 times when I wouldn’t get out of the truck. A St Bernard came the closest to ending my tenure on this planet.

Was watching one of those judge shows on the boob tube last week. It was a dog attack case. Even the judge said. " Let me guess, it was a pit bull". Of course she was right

No child should be left alone with ANY dog no matter chihuahua or mastiff

Like said above pits are a breed that is wired to kill
Yes you will find a few that are big babies that would not hurt a mouse but WHY gamble?

I know people who got dogs that showed aggressive tendencies toward kids. It was either unknown or undisclosed when they were acquired. The dogs were put down without a second thought just at the sign of being a possible danger to a child. No attack needed and not going to be pawned off to anyone else to deal with
And that is the way anyone who loves children should react

Late 90's had a neighbor who got a pitbull pup. Several months later guess who they asked to shoot it for them?

True.

The only local person I ever heard of being killed by a dog, the dogs were pits. They tore her clear apart and I think they were her dogs.

It happened closer to Wetdog on here, maybe he'll chime in.

I have an ol boy that lives about a mile away, the way a crow flies. He always has at least one pit bull all the time, along with a couple Rottweiler crosses. He lets them roam the countryside and they have an aggressive nature to them when they're away from home. They've cornered our horses and calves before and have killed several chickens, so when they come around I take it upon myself to kill them on sight.

We also have another neighbor that has 2 pit bulls that lives about a quarter mile away, he learned real quick that if he wants to keep them alive, he needs to keep them at home. They stay tied up or inside a fence these days and we get along good !

I have no use for a pit bull, I don't care how good the owner claims that they act.

They're such ugly dogs, too. When they snap, they have no regard for their own safety; they are relentless. (There's even a name for this trait: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gameness) They have very muscular jaws and necks and when they bite down, it's not easy to pry their mouths open. There's a device called a break stick that assists with releasing from a pit bull's jaws:

https://www.pbrc.net/breakstick.html

Quote
How to Break Up a Fight
If one of the dogs has a grip, it’s time to use a break stick.
It is best if there are two people to break up a fight, but you can do it by yourself if you have no choice. If both dogs are fighting and you are alone, you might need to tie one of the dogs to something solid. When one of the dogs is tied up, you must "break" the one that is not tied first, and pull him/her off right away.
Walk over to the dogs, straddle one that has a hold, and then lock your legs around the dog's hips just in front of the hindquarters. Make sure your legs are locked securely around the dog. Your break stick will be in one hand, so with your free hand, grab your dog firmly by his collar and pull upward slightly.
Insert your breaking stick behind the molars where the gap is found. Sometimes you need to work the stick in just a bit if the gap is small. The stick should be inserted from ˝ to 1˝ inches into the dog's mouth.
Turn the stick as if you're twisting the throttle of a motorcycle. This action will cause the dog to readjust its grip, and it will bite onto the stick, releasing the other dog. If both dogs have a hold, you will then have to break the second dog from the first.

Not every individual dog is aggressive, but when it comes to children, why roll the dice? What baffles me is the propaganda from some people promoting this particular breed as "nanny dogs." It's absolute lunacy.

I've found that an application of an appropriate amount of lead will "break" every dog that needed it.

Nope, zero, nada for the breed. Have a dear friend that had a couple of pits that were absolute sweethearts.
On a personal note, had to shoot a dog who was trusted in the house. He snapped at my wife’s face, for no reason. I drug himsers outside and ended that for good.
He was a mutt and completely chill, up until that moment that he turned.

I hate to demonize the breed but it seems like a constant issue. This just in.

Some cities south of the mason Dixon line passed a law that you had to pay a large license fee to keep a pit inside city limits. The year that passed I caught a lot of pits in coyote sets out in the country. Also Our animal shelter won’t take pits.

I've always felt that because they top the dangerous dog list, any person who owns one should be held criminally liable if that dog ever attacks and maims someone.
There is a good reason nearly all insurance companies will not write a homeowners policy on you if you own a pit bull or a mixed breed pit bull.

You will never convince a pit bull owner that the breed is dangerous. You might as will take a pi$$ into the wind. I went from the first post to the last without reading everything between because most of it is BS. It is like trying to argue with a democrat, you will never win! JMO

I don’t think theres not many mutts out there that’s don’t have some of pit traits in it. I see so many dogs that take on the pit traits. My dog looks like so many other mutts that I come across now it’s a very common look. I notice it more now that I have Ryder that I never picked up on before.

Ears like the flying nun.

They’re just dogs. Any 100 pound canine is capable of doing the same thing. They just happen to be very prolific. Kinda like how if you get shot, it’s a good chance it’ll be with an AR15…not because they’re extra dangerous, there’s just a lot of them.

Neighbors daughter called and asked me if I would take care of her beloved pit. It was eating and the other dog came over and got too close. Time that dog was stitched up he looked like Frankenstein.

She was a good owner and realized with young children, there was not another option. Her DA cousin got mad and said it would have made someone else a fine dog.

That sweet little pup never did that again after we talked at the end of the road at the end of the field.

We just adopted two dogs last year from the pound. Told the kids no pits or pit crosses. It was rather difficult finding a dog that wasn't a pit/pit mix. Kind of says a lot about that sweet lovable cuddly breed.

If they are such smart lovable loyal and trustworthy dogs, why doesn't the police use them for their strength? Imagine walking up on a criminal with a pit. On the flip side, imagine walking up on an innocent person with a pit.

They have their place with experienced dog handlers for hogs. Other than that, they are absolutely useless and most all of them need killing.

I will say it again, Anyone who owns a pitbull should be held criminally liable if that dog attacks someone. The charge should be twice as severe if it's a child.
You rarely hear of a case where a lab or other breed maims or kills someone. The population of pits in the dog population is low, yet they top the chart in the vicious animal class. Most insurance companies won't insure you if they know you own one.

Our local animal shelter always has at least 1/2 dozen pits waiting to be adopted. You know most of them were sent to the shelter because of some sort of issue. Most dogs will cost you $4-500 dollars to adopt one as they chip them, shots, etc. A pit you can get for almost no charge because most people are smart enough to know the danger that comes with them.

I hope they can fix her up and that she has no long-term damage.

You can't find a non pit or pit cross in the pound here, and they have dozens to pick through...

I found one on an island out in the bay, no idea how it got there....didn't know me from Adam, yet it let me get it into the boat without a hint of aggression...it got adopted by a young woman, she named him Gilligan, lol, she had a baby and that dog was as sweet to the baby as it was to everyone else....now I don't trust the things but this was just a real nice dog...she had him for years till it got sick and died...never an ounce of aggression ....go figure..
