I put out hummingbird feeders and yellow jacket traps Thursday. I saw my first hummer this morning which is a little early for us. I haven't caught a yellow jacket yet but the queens will be out soon.

I believe this was a calliope. Crocus, daffodils and a few wildflowers are all that are blooming near me. I am seeing buds on a few flowering bushes.

It always baffles me how the arid west gets so many different species and the eastern part of the county which is more lush and wet only has 1 species.

We get four species here at the house-calliope,rufous,black chinned and broad tailed. We aren't in the desert part of the west and get a fair amount of moisture.

Putting out our feeders tomorrow. Rufous is our most common variety and Anna’s are sighted rarely here.

Always get the feeders ready when I see the first sapsuckers arrive. Hummers don’t return until sapsuckers have opened their sap holes as they often rely on that sap and insects it attracts in a pinch. Though our spring has not been overly warmer than normal many marker birds are returning a couple weeks early this year. While some never fully left this winter.
