Hung castor from this season in my fur shed until bone dry. Bought a food processor from good-will, and used scissors to cut it all down into “thumb-nail” sized pieces. The processor was able to turn it into a coffee ground consistently. From there I put it into a glass Masson jar enough 80 proof vodka to semi rehydrate, some pancake syrup out of the kitchen which had sodium- benzoate within the ingredients, a little cinnamon and nutmeg. My plan is to let it season thru the spring, summer, fall, and then I will put some glycerin in it come cold weather.

it's a lot easier to just open up the green castors and scrap out the contents and add glycerin or mineral oil to make a paste.
The sac that contains the actual castor is of no value in making the lure.

Boco gave me a tip about using blackstrap molasses as a binder. Been using it for years. I use Everclear grain alcohol instead of vodka.

Can’t go wrong with castor! Your stuff will catch.
I only hang my castor for lure for about a day, then into the freezer. There’s lots of juice when I cut it up. Just whipped up a batch a few days ago too, but my little processor doesn’t chop it that fine, I spun it for about 5 min.
Castor, tiny bit of beaver oil & anise, poplar bud oil and glycerin. I leave the castor out for food lures and add a couple other goodies.

Same here, I have four different varieties. Sometimes I splurge though and buy some Backbreaker or Woodchipper.

I doubt you need glycerin for antifreeze.

I never added anything to my fresh castor other than glycerin. I want to keep my lure as natural as possible.

I have stopped adding any bud oils to my spring beaver lure as it tends to attract unwanted muskrats because our season is closed.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Castor lure / curiosity I assume. I will use it as I have my other heavy castor lures.

Sounds similar to my homemade recipe. I use cheap whiskey instead of vodka. It catches beaver well for me.

My wife calls my beaver-castor-only food processor a butthole grinder.

I get great results without griding and adding extra stuff.
