For those of you who conduct background checks on employees…what site/software do you use?

I dont do background checks but did have some NCIC & GCIC information training.

There are multiple types of background checks.....

As an employer, you would have to go thru:

Driving history (thru dmv/local LE)

Criminal history (local LE)

Financial history (various websites can access this with permission, but I'm not familiar with them)

We use a place called Ident-a-go. Not sure if they're national. They send prints to FBI and WV State Police. Charge about 50 bucks.

Ours go through the State Police Bureau of Identification and they are also ran through the child protection registry with the state of Delaware. I’m sure that doesn’t help you at all.

My wife works for a bank. They used to use the above agency. They now use ADP because it's a service offered through the payroll company they use.

When I was commissioned in the Coast Guard, I had a thorough background check. Then when employed by Prudential, my NASD check was much the same. After serving in the CG Reserve for about 20 years, I opened the mail one day to discover I had been granted a Top Secret clearance. Have no idea what triggered that or who requested the clearance. Came in handy at times.

We use hireright at work. Only complaint is it can be slow to get the info back, sometimes 2 weeks, which is too long when looking at a good candidate. Good employees can find a job in less than two weeks so when we call back many are already working somewhere else.

When I went through my top secret clearance, I got phone calls from all kinds of people asking me what I had done. Lol.

It’s been 2-3 years since I’ve dealt with this stuff but HireRight is a decent service. You’d have to get account. Depending on volume you’d be requesting it may or may not be worth it. They have fairly standard packages that you can request depending on what you need from criminal, driving, work history, education

in WI you can learn a lot from the WI-CCAP (WI circuit court access portal) you only see convictions but you can see speeding tickets , divorces , any citation we use it before spending the money on the actual background check

not sure if other states have as useful of a circuit court access

if you can see several serios red flags before spending the money on the check , why bother.
