is fly fishing for whatever species you wish to catch. for me it is these big bream and the occasional bass on a floating grasshopper. My my it is some serious fun. had to be patient this morning because the big uns didnt get active until around 1030. Then, I had a pair of bald eagles come in and set up in a dead red oak across the lake. For the topper, the very first ever golden eagle I have ever seen in East Tx came in right behind them and hung around for 30 minutes or so. The golden eagles are absolutely huge in comparison to the bald eagles. The only raptor that didnt show up today was the Osprey that I normally see.

I had an awesome time out this morning. This particular private lake only got 2" of Rain sunday so it wasnt muddy at all. there is about 500 acres of hay fields surrounding it so the thick grass filters the sediment this time of the year before it even reaches this lake. Going back tomorrow with tripod and camera.

Good for you, Dave. Youve had so much seriousness to deal with in your work, to have some fun and just breathe the air is a good thing.

I feel Goldens are much prettier in feather tones than Baldies. Subtle, but gorgeous in sunlight.

Enjoy those bream. I haven't had bream in decades. Miss them.

some day I may have to try the fly fishing walked into a fly fishing shop last fall to see what they had while the wife was in a yarn store next door , I got sticker shock and walked out , so maybe I will have to find the budget fly shop.

Like everything else you can go down the rabbit hole with fly fishing stuff, but sunnies don't care if your using a cheap walmart rod or super expensive equipment...

I need to look and see if I still have my cheap FG rod and manual reel, Could care less about trout or the elitest equipment, catching our punkinseed sunnies is just plain fun. Haven't been fresh water fishing in over 40 years , might be time to start again... grin

especially since i cant trap anymore and after losing Uncle Bulletbox and my best friend Eddie, I have no desire to deer hunt anymore, other than to shoot two or three doe to get processed for several widows and one widower. i also have others providing for them as well. My youngest brothers father in law provides them with tons of fresh produce and his wife cans veggies for them.

to top it off this morning I had a pair of bald eagles come in to this lake and park in a big dead red oak. about ten minutes later they were high tailing it out of there and I saw my very first Golden Eagle in SE Texas. they are absolutely huge in comparison to the baldies. The osprey pair are the only ones I didnt see this morning. camera and tripod are ready to load up in the morning in case they return.

Sounds like a great morning

Pretty sure I saw a golden in Red River county several years ago. By far the biggest raptor I have seen in Texas

The only thing I miss about dairying is birds of pray.
The gut pile was under a big tree and had lot of different visitors, including coyotes.

Trout are still slow here even though the ice is mostly melted. I want to try doing some fly fishing though. Need to pull my fly rod out of storage.

We have lots of eagles here, they feed on the dead sheep. I always feel it’s worth the time to stop if you see a couple bald eagles and a golden in a field. There will surly be a good fight over whatever is dead out there. I’ll have to throw my phone scope in the truck at some point. The golden eagles are close to twice the size of the bald ones.

I saw a bald Eagle for the first time last weekend. Hanging out at Hi-To lake and bar.
Stellers Sea Eagle is my favorite tho. Obviously not around these parts. But they have a pair at the Pittsburgh aviary

no pictures today folks. went out early to see if i could catch a few big bream and crappie. not much happening there but I did manage to catch 6 big bluegill and one crappie before the lightening hit.

Ole Dave aint hanging around when the lightening starts, I depart. Jesse Henry and I got in a doozy of a bad one last summer at this spot. Then as we departed I was supposed to take him to a buddies house by the Lake Livingston Dam. However, a tornado was on the ground in close proximity to that location. So, we took a long scenic drive to get him back to Savelleville, where Older brother Jacob was waiting. I can promise you, neither he nor I will ever forget that day. It was BAD!!!! For me, I can admit, It took a minute to pull the seat out of my lowest sphincter upon arrival at Savelleville. What a day
