IMO none of this makes any sense. My actual shipping costs/efforts is my cost of doing business. Of course all this nonsense should be upfront in the condition of sales.

"1. FHA’s sales commission is 11%.

2. U.S. shippers must send through an FHA receiving agent. FHA agents that export to Canada are licensed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. They will obtain all the necessary permits to legally ship your fur to Canada.

3. There are shipping costs for using FHA’s pickup services and sending fur through our agents. Please check your appropriate schedule for the applicable amounts.

4. Receipts will be issued when the fur is picked up. Quantities are “Subject to count” by our receiving department at our warehouse.

5. FHA sales are conducted and paid in U.S. dollars

When you follow the instructions above you will see the fee for the area you are shipping from. Example from Pennsylvania:

Shipping fee: $15.00 per shipper. no shipping charges when total goods sell for under $100.00 at auction.

Obviously it's not listed because it is not standard practice.

Shipping costs are listed as part of the condition of sales. I just showed you that.

It's the last time I'm going to the Cambridge location as long as they have a free roaming pit bull. The darn thing even growled at me.
Not a good thing in my opinion.

Don't forget to ask for reimbursement of your driving ( shipping ) costs. Maybe you can get standard mileage?

I don't know about now, but everything used to be more or less negotiable. Especially when they were competing with NAFA for our business. I one time decided I wanted to drive across country to UP Mich to see a friend and drop off a load of fur. Told FHA that NAFA was reimbursing shipping. I believe it was Don Rumford said they could do that too. Says I, "Well it would cost $180 to ship the fur I have, but I'm intending to drive to Make Spencer's place to drop it off. Would you be willing to help with gas money?"

A few days later I got a check for $180 based on my word and what I said I was dropping off.

Never knew that took place , how many trappers drove mileage to a drop off point and forked over the required.
I guess if you are on the required route,..a discount is in order?

I have ALWAYS had to pay to ship my fur through USPS, to get it to ANY FHA depot. I have to mail everything, since I live remote. I have sent fur to agents in WA, WI, and AK, ever since FHA started up, but haven't shipped anything to them for like 15 years now. At NO POINT in the past was I EVER reimbursed for my exorbitant shipping costs, nor was it EVER mentioned as a possibility that FHA will cover these costs (apparently in some instances?).
Which makes more sense for FHA, from strictly a business perspective (not to pick on BP wink ), but covering $57 for BP's 6 cats and 2 beaver, or covering a couple hundred bucks shipping for a couple percent of your entire marten offering?? Which shipper is going to make more $$$ for FHA??? I would think there should be a bit more common sense to this "non standard practice", because now I'm miffed to find out even though I shipped FHA a big batch of high value fur, I got no offer of reimbursement for my shipping cost!!!?? Thanks for bringing this up BP, as I was unaware that it was an option. You can bet if I ever ship to FHA again, I will be contacting Cambridge depot, and be asking if they will reimburse my freight on any fur I may choose to ship.

On a side note, I did sell a batch of marten to WMFC a few years back, at better than FHA prices, and he DID reimburse me my shipping costs. I guess I should have maybe given him a call this year!!??

trapped4evah, that is why I started the thread. We trapping brothers need to stick together....the last 20 years or more I've had to travel to Washington to get my fur to FHA. Never was reimbursed for my travel expenses either. That is why I was shocked to get that check a couple of days ago. But I'm not knocking it. It increases the chances of me sending fur to FHA.
