Finally had a good day of nuisance beaver trapping. Sometimes they make me wonder if I know what I'm doing.
4 of 7 traps connected. Hancock, Comstock and two in 330's.
18, 30, 37, 47 lbs. Big female has a rub on her back, could be from the Hancock.

Nice! I noticed the “rub” on some of mine too. Mine looks like mink action maybe.

Very nice

I'm working a nuisance job this week. Beaver was rebuilding a dam in the ditch every 2 days after it was destroyed. I show up and set a couple of 330's, and he doesn't show up for 5 days since?

Today the trap did catch something ... But it was a snapping turtle. A first for me.

The big one was at a roadside culvert. With the guardrail leaving no room to park, I parked about 50 yards away. I just put her under the guardrail. I told the landowner I'll drive to it, I wasn't carrying her back to the truck. I got in the truck and took off. I was about two miles away when I remembered I didn't stop and throw her in the back. Had to turn around and go back.
Got a 30 lb'r in same trap this morning. Carried it back to the truck.

I use a large backpack that can hold three. The hardest pant is putting it on.

I also had the same thing occur but with a different outcome. Caught a pair of 35 lb.ers on the Chippewa River one spring. Left one on the shore ice and carried other one up the steep bank and thru it in back of truck. In my hurry to get to the next spot i hopped in my truck and didn't remember the other beaver till I got there, which was 10 miles away. Lol Two hours later after checking the other traps I arrived back at the first spot where I had forgot the beaver. As the pic shows, something had taken chunks out of the tail and peeled skin off the hind foot. It was otherwise undamaged. Their was no sign or tracks of whatever did it on the hard ice. By the chunks taken out of the tail my guess would be a bald eagle, as they are real common along the river. Why the mystery critter didnt tear Into the beavers exposed back still has me wondering. Anyway, it's better to be old and forgetful than the alternative. Lol
