Anyone ever tried to preserve whole minnows with sodium benzoate for fishing? I was looking at those preserved salted and brined ones they sell at Walmart in resealable bags and the hamster wheel in my head started turning.

Ww always just froze them. If you're banned from using the freezer for that purpose, doesn't hurt to try. Long yerm storage id worry about them turning to mush

I bought some shad that way at the bait shop one time , wasn't getting any gills for cut bait during the spawn so I tried it , didn't catch anything with them but they keep well.

unfortunately the cats were in spawn also so I only got 3

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I haven't tried SB on minnows, but i have salted and froze gallons of them, so salt works reasonably well.

I would think Sodium Benzoate would be too expensive to make it worthwhile.

If you do your own, canning salt works great. If you don't want the corrosive salt use cornmeal.
You can't compare anything to that Walmart garbage. Never tried SB
