I was so impressed with Leon and his live trap, I feel I need to write a review.

~ADC~ recommended Leon, so I found his website and sent a message. He promptly replied and suggested which trap he would use. I asked if he ever traveled north and as luck may have it, he was headed north the next day.

Leon personally delivered his hand made trap right to my front door, I expected we would say a few words and he would be on his way.. But no! He walked the perimeter of my property looking for signs of the raccoon I'm after and found tracks, all while giving me tips and advice on where to place the trap, how it worked, what to do and what not to do. What 22 rifle he recommends etc etc etc. I really was floored as I've never experienced such personal service. And did I mention he was a nice guy?

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but even though I can't compare his trap to others, it looks heavy and well made.

Highly recommended!

He's a great guy and makes great traps. I'd recommend them to anyone. Makes a great bait fish trap too.

Leon is a really good guy. Great equipment too.
He sets up at the Old Threshers Reunion here in Mt Pleasant every labor day weekend.

Good view of a Wickenkamp. Note the 1/2" x 1" wire along the bottom to prevent reaching, the solid bar gravity drop door made of 1/4" stock, and locking rings to keep the door closed when it drops. That circular pin piece on far right side is a critical part of it........pin is shoved into the ground from the top..... to prevent rollover......which would then allow the gravity door to fall open if the trap was rolled upside down. That is also a plus if you want to release an animal and not have to fiddle with door locks, etc. Just roll it upside down and the door will fall open.

Only suggestion I'd make is to make improvement to the dog mechanism used to hold the door open with trap is set. The bolt used will quickly rust up. Maybe use a stainless bolt or rod there? Don't know the long term durability of bolt piece.

I have used Wickencamp live traps for many years, and I will have to say that so far the only thing that has hurt one of these traps is a 40/20 John Deere. With a little bending and twisting, it became workable again. I like the 8x10, and the 10x12, as the smaller one fits inside the other for storage. I even had a 31# coon in the small one, and the only problem was getting it out. When trapping around a farmstead and catching a cat, I just roll it over a couple times, the cat darts out and never wants anything to do with it. Good luck.
