I caught a 4.9 pounder on my 5 wt. fly rod setup this morning. not sure what the fly is called but it floats and is about 2" long, has legs and wings. caught it on the third cast and I was fishing for big bluegill and red ear. just tied on a new tippet too. darn rascal got me wrapped up around a log about 10 minutes into the battle. had to just give her slack and wait it out. she eventually got free and was pretty much done at that point. I could see her when she came up out of a cypress top under the surface. I had to ease that fly away from that top at a dead creep, yet she followed. then a quick twitch and the fight commenced. Like a big dummy I didnt get my net outta the truck. It still worked out. I did have to scrap that new tippet and replace it. more are on the way as we speak and I will get way more in Branson this week.

for that place, a 4-5 pound bass is normal. 8-10 pounders I will catch 3 or 4 a year. 10-12 I have only caught two in there over the past 4 years. but, thats on good bass fishing setups. This flyrod is a whole new meaning to playing a fish and wearing it down.
