News broke yesterday about 5 pm locally, that a car went careening through an after school daycare center… the driver blew through a 4 way intersection and then went into the building and completely out the other side.
3 little kids and an 18 year old were killed.
Several more are in the hospital with serious injuries.

There’s speculation that she was drunk and passed out behind the wheel.
Horrible accident!!!

toxicology will determine that with the investigation

she could have just as easily been stone sober and texting

absolutely nuts how many people you see looking down at their phone driving.

what about this intersection says , stack of crosses roadside , but there are.



it is a flashing light and a stop sign for the 81 and GG traffic , they took it to a 4 way stop now because so many people coming from the SE never saw the stop sign nor stopped , that salt shed in the NW corner of the intersection has been hit twice by cars that launched across the intersection .

1-2 fatality crashes for no reason a year at this intersection

it is about as flat as can be there , you can see the flashing red light over a mile off , the crashes aren't happening in bad weather , often at night but not bad weather.

Wow! Didn't hear about that.....what a tragedy! 'Pete think they'd put some speed bumps in BEFORE the intersection or something with that history??

That intersection sounds like it's been begging for a real fix for years. When tragedies pile up like that, it's not just “accidents” anymore, it's failure to act.

this thinking is why there are warning labels not to drink the battery acid. he said a lot are at night when headligh should make cars easier to see.

When will people be responsible for their own actions and blame not be placed on other things. Some one needs to do something. You hear it after most shootings as well..

Not picking on you just my reaction to what will be many peoples first reaction.

Accident was it maybe? Depends on your definition. To me if it were maybe medical and black out or other cause of lose of control or mechanical failure I would say Accident yep.

Now if it was not paying attention or under the influence I would say not an accident. Others may say yes it was becues it was not an intentionally done. Geting hung up on language and intent can be tricky and slippery. So..

Hope it wasn’t aDUI could have been a medical emergency issue terrible tragedy regardless

intersection hasn't changed in 30 years , problems have mostly been in the last 10 getting more frequent.

last fall they made it a 4 way stop to slow down the drivers on 11 and make them watch for the people not stopping, a round about is coming in the next couple years that will probably just launch more people over to the county salt shed.

they have put up those big yellow barrels to try and fend off damage to the salt shed , they went slightly around the barrels and hit the little shed next to it last time so more barrels.

it is distracted , drunk , fell asleep drivers coming NW on 81 they go right off the end of the road into who ever is there or launching all the way to the salt shed.

I agree,,, right now the details are sketchy as to why.

My wife is from Chatham, IL. I just got the news about an hour ago that one of the little girls killed is a family friend of ours. We are heartbroken over it. So young and innocent. Just playing at school and having fun. I'm so sad I don't even know what else to say.

If you are the praying type, please say one for those who have been affected. It will be difficult times for a while.
