One of the best mink funnel spots is under a bridge. Most trappers using foot traps build up a spot along the bridge wall and set their trap just underwater. If it rains or snow melts and the stream rises a trap underwater is out of commission. Same with a skim of ice. A better way is to build up the rocks so the mink can climb out of the water and catch him there. Now I use a snare to do this but a foot trap set on top along the edge is just as deadly. I have done this in other states I have trapped, using a piece of sod on top of the rocks to bed my trap. Mink are always on the lookout for winged predators so a spot under a bridge to climb up out of the water is a welcome sight to them.

If the water under a bridge is too deep to build up then I set my snare fastened to a brick against the bridge wall where the mink will exit the water. When caught he just drags the brick in deep water and drowns.

Sometimes under a bridge there is a short abutment or in this case just a rise in the concrete and I set there. Again the mink drags the brick in deep water, I can look over the bridge and see if I have a catch.

Sweet!

Brings back memories Eric, my sons and I followed your example with the brick method and made up a bunch with snares attached.

The pics are awesome! I have yet to snare a mink. Could you please elaborate a bit on what cable you recommend? also, loop size and height off ground? Thanks in advance!

Good photos. I especially like the snare set up with the brick.

More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.
