Set up at the neighbor's farm. 510, first gobble. From 515 to 538, it was nonstop gobbles from the ridge behind me, 100 to 300 yards away. At least 6 different birds. Heard some hens yelp about 540, then silence. This ol boy came out of the woods 300ish yard away, worked across a disked field and into the alfalfa I was set up on. I was using a single jake decoy. 40 minutes later, the tom had closed in to 50ish yards, gobbling and strutting off and on. At 50 yards, he stayed in strut and bellied right up to my jake decoy. He picked his head up a bit, pretty sure he was gonna light up that jake, and I let him have it. 3 inch, 12ga, good old Remington nitro mag's in #6 flavor. 10 inch beard. 1 1/4 inch spurs.

I'm just a little north of you, I haven't heard one gobble yet tho there is a lone hen running around my place.
Not near as many turkeys around as about a decade ago.

For sure there aren't. Seems they are in pockets now, instead of spread all over.

Good luck D. A real hen is the best decoy nature can provide, sometimes.

His crop was full of alfalfa.

Good job Kyle! Makes for a real rush to see and hear them coming from that far away and making noise most of the way. Thanks for taking the day on Saturday to be at our WTA booth at the Random Lake HS conservation show. Our booth had a lot of traffic and interest.

very nice , I think it would be cool if they let us hunt them with traditional muzzle loaders and round balls.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I've shot a few with my 20ga. fowlers, thats always fun. Hunting them with a 36 would be really fun.

Forever in debt to my Father who introduced me to trapping.
