Might pull the trigger on a new grinder. Needing a bigger one. Any recommendations on a size?

I built a #32 with 3/4;hp motor and am pretty happy with it. If it were u I wouldn't go any smaller. Guess it just depends on how much grinding your doing. A good grinder that's not going to break in the middle of full day of grinding and puts some volume out is a game changer as far as I'm concerned. Know of a couple guys that have grinders big enough the grind most of the bones of a horse through it.

Thanks much! I was hoping for something to handle a full prairie dog.

I don't think my 32 would do a whole praire dog. Maybe in 2 or 3 pieces and at least a 1 hp motor to do the head. I'd think it would take a real commercial grinder to do a whole prairie dog. Throat and auger just isn't big enough for something that big.

This is my set up. It will grind chicken or muskrat bones and all, I have not tried prarie dog but I would bet on my rig doing it with ease. The hide removed would be my preference. This thing plays with frozen mice like tic tacs.

Nice video Regular Joe.
Guys, I THINK it was Scott Phillips that had that grinder that would do about anything...huge.
Think it ran off a car engine.

I got the idea for that 3/4" plate from his video most likely, he was grinding muskrat with it I think. The motor in my video came with a dirt moving conveyor I own. It is easy to set up, and I can slip the grinder off and pressure wash it outside when I am done.

I was in Cabela's today looking at grinders and other stuff. If this one doesn't grind it, you probably don't need to grind it. No saying this is the model to get, but this size...

I regret ever selling my old 220 volt commercial grinder. It would grind beaver, bones and all. Just had to break up the bigger bones a little with the back of a hatchet. It would fill a five gallon bucket in short order.

That one looks like a dandy.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

Those self contained motors on a grinder like above are nothing like a farm duty or commercial duty motor rated at sane HP.

Years ago I spent few days with Andy Weiser. I was watching him make his coyote gland lure. I believe he had the cabelas 42 grinder pictured above. Well, some body that supplied him with glands through a 3/32 double ferrule in the mix. Stopped that grinder cold!! Had a heck of a time gettin it to move forward or backward. Finally got it out. The motor did twist the auger shaft at the splines but it still worked fine.

Ouch! That'd make for a bad few days....not only expensive loss but dealing with the slimey yuck of those ingredients.
Hope Old Andy is doing OK
