Foxpaw, the verse says God stretched out the heavens. The word stretched is in the past tense, not present tense. Also, how can scientists “see” the “edge” of space when they can’t even see some of the farthest galaxies?

I was hoping this debate address the origin theories proposed by atheists. Without invoking an intelligence or external actor, it's challenging to explain the initial organization of matter and accumulation of energy necessary for events like the Big Bang. Even scientific explanations for the universe's origin seem to require a prior cause or condition that exists outside the current natural order. It appears that any origin theory, whether theistic or atheistic, necessitates a degree of faith in something beyond our immediate understanding. Typically only one side of the debate acknowledges their beliefs require faith.

You can take everything science has to offer regarding explanations for the universe and recursively ask "but what lead to that". At some point the scientist's answers start sounding like God.

Perhaps I should have combined dark energy and dark matter in the question.

So a question for you atheists: how did the universe begin?

Unless you believe in an omnipotent God......

Where did the stuff that caused the Big Bang come from? And what purpose do stars have for evolution?

Berean Standard Bible

Moses’ Staff

1Then Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to my voice? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”

2And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?”

“A staff,” he replied.

3“Throw it on the ground,” said the LORD. So Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it.

4“Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail,” the LORD said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand.

5“This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

How do you know there was a big bang? How do you know time is linear and not circular?

When I was a little boy I thought there were tiny people in my transistor radio.

There are so many creation stories should we put a few hundred in a hat and draw to choose one? What if none of the creation stories are correct? Not big bang or any religions explanation.

Why is it so hard for people to admit that they don't know?

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

The stars are a result not the cause. Moses stretched out his arm and grabbed the snake by the tail and not behind the head which would have been safer. Its is similar to the power of a moving market, in that it comes from the creator and not the creature.

if i see you throw a stick on the ground and it turns into a snake, pick it up and it becomes a stick, i will believe your version of creation

Oh ok, versus the stick picks up itself by its own power?

I won’t be able to do that. But if YOU show me a ape turning into a human, I’ll believe evolution.

Let's not talk about apes and gorillas and such after last night.
