These threads are always interesting! I love the smoke and mirrors shadow play of who makes whose lures and who owns the recipes.
Always fun to find out one place makes 6 different brands. Makes a guy wonder if some of them reallllllly stick to the old time original recipe with that extra pinch of love added. Once it leaves the original makers shed. It's never the same. That's for sure. But doesn't mean it not just as good or better, just a little different. Dobbins may be an exception. Gone from father to son, it has to be as close as one could imagine to his father's formulation. With just the same amount of "love".

I think I saw Odon Corr’s lure on Facebook somewhere. . Yes, it was when I found it a few years ago but here is the riddle, why when Odon was responsible for his lures (note I never said MADE) he used them below ground in his video, does the NEW manufacturer tell you to ONLY use the lures above ground! What changed? I tested the lures above ground on grubstakes AND in dirt holes, he wasn’t lying, there was a difference! I’d never use them in a dirt hole after doing the testing! The lures are not cheap to buy to test but the manufacturer didn’t bs! In order for Odon to use these lures below ground in his video, the lures had to have “lift”, apparently the formula being made today doesn't

I can't speak for other formulators but we make large enough batches that we will have enough of the same formula for several years. We still have some lure we are still selling that I made in 1988.
It is likely older then some members on here. We are getting low on that particular inventory and I surely will not live long enough to see another batch reach that age of blending.
Most lure batches we produce will last 3-5 years due to the volume that is made and sold. So consistency of odor and effect will remain stable.
Things can change a little from batch to batch over the years due to the many variables involved when working with organic materials and temperatures. Just a fact.
Keeping product exactly the same from year to year can be a challenge and requires lots of hands on attention. Those making lure from year to year can certainly run in to more problems in keeping things consistent. Most of our lure products need a year or more to really blend well.
We produce most all of the basic raw materials that we use in house. Glands are received fresh / frozen and all personally handled and processed by me.
We never use items blended or handled by others. You can never keep a formula very stable or consistent doing that.
The problem all formulators run into is finding essential oils that don't change and ingredients that are no longer available or they change due to regulations.
Most all organic and raw materials I can control how they turn out very consistently year after year. You must do things in house to control that factor or be darn sure of how another processes things if you plan on using them and expect the same results. All of the answers are in this post! Isn’t there an old adage that says “if you want something done right, do it yourself!”

Seldom, with all do respect, from what I seen on Odon Corrs video the only thing he put down the hole was his baits, and not much for a dirt hole to say either. His lures were always placed above ground usually on a rock. But to my knowledge he never showed putting everything down hole. His lures were originally made for the M-44 getters so only makes sense they would need to be above ground. Yes, I never saw in his video where he used a dirt “hole” per-say as most trappers would make a “dirt hole”, he just dug a little with his knife if I remember correctly and applied lure AND he would smear the lure on a rock. I guess I can’t remember him distinguishing between bait and lure because if he had a bait on the market I’would have tested it as I did the lures. Here is one of the grubstake test videos using Corr’s lures. https://youtu.be/NxQvDcgMrPo?si=c9kjxH0W0GVqPjKoCompare to a grubstake test using Weiser’s Liquid Bait several 100 yds away from the Corr test. https://youtu.be/yWU1KDCmFTM?si=OQOhaB1GBAk5ug57
