I was sitting in the kitchen where I have one of our office computers doing some work. I heard this extremely loud turkey gobble, like one had been in our living room. I thought it was one of my employees having some fun with me.
So, I got up and walked over to our french doors which is right off the back deck and I was a bit surprised to see this big old boy walking around on our back deck.
As I watched in disbelief, it appeared he was surgically pecking up some random bird seed left from a feeder that I had used all winter in that area. He seemed to have developed a system of pecking up the small milo, cracked corn and sunflower seeds from between the decking boards and finding them too his liking.
I hadn't done much clean up work on the deck this spring except some light brooming to get the bulk of the left over scattered seeds swept off. There were some larger cracks in some of the deck boards that will require some tedious cleaning out with a butter knife etc. at a later date.

In fact there are some sprouts taking root in some of the deck board cracks as I looked more closely. The photos aren't very clear due to the type of screen I have on our french door screens. I replaced the old factory screens years ago with pet screen which is much heavier and not as transparent.
When we had dogs who wanted back in, you know the rest of the story. Those old factory screens really took a toll and I got tired of replacing them.
Today is our opening day of Spring Gobbler, I hope he doesn't draw a hunter down too close to the house if he does this again. We never had game this close before when we had our dogs.
