The Tom Miranda post had me reminisceing

Here's a pic of me from years ago in my usual hunting garb. I also had a Woolrich plaid jacket I wore over the bibs. Never got cold even if I was wet. But when you're wet in wool you gain a hundred pounds.
How many of you wore wool or still do? I don't have any of that fancy new age stuff. Killed deer with my recurve and wool bibs and still do.

I used to have a vintage woolrich jacket , it was a mens small and green and yellow color instead of traditional red. Zip up. Made in the early 80s I think. I wish I still had it. Ended up giving to my nieces boyfriend who is now her ex boyfriend.

Wool is great but I find it itchy so at least for my inner layers I preffer synthetic.

I wear nothing but wool in the wintah. I never leave the house without.

I just grabbed some med/ light weight wool socks at bass pro when I walked by them. Thought maybe they would hold up better than what I have been getting. I didn't know they made them other than the thick ones. These are the same thickness as regular crew socks. BUT when I read the package when I got home they are only 20% wool.

I 2nd I find most wool itchy and stick tights and burs stick to it. I would still like a nice set of it either outer layer or lighter mid layer .

My cousin had an old military wool sweater he wore whan we were kids and he loved it.

Wear some almost every hunt, merino unders and usually my KOM wool shirt and vest.

I wear merino wool socks every day. They are cool in warm weather and warm in cold weather.

I also have a Filson heavy wool coat that sees a lot of use during winter hunting seasons.

I have several Filson wool garments. I also wear the newer wool T-shirts and long underwear. Hard to beat. The new stuff don’t itch like the old. It’s nice that it’s light and you don’t overheat, kinda like a quality down sleeping bag. Always comfortable.

where are you finding wool these days?

I like my wool but have a hard time finding much
I wear socks , hat and gloves , sometimes a sweater as a mid layer I found some merino wool base layer but haven't gotten it yet

It's around , but expensive. I have the merino base layers in 2 weights, depends on how cold it is or you can add them together, that with a sweater and windproof outer layer and your good, as long as you keep active
Wool sweaters can usually be found at goodwills.. pants are harder to find, I don't usually bother with wool pants anymore unless I'm still hunting, wool is quiet.

the problem with good will , thrift stores and being a big guy is the only thing you find in a 3X at a thrift store will be a bunch of old polo shirts that no one wanted to wear in the first place.

I am not that big in the gut , but I need a 3X in the shoulders and neck

I use it. I love it. The only downside it does not turn the wind very well. You need a windbreaker over top of it.
