Bought a second hand pair of heavy wool pants on the Internet. Too small. Years ago. Would really be too small now.

I'm also a fan of anything Filson , socks , gloves , vest , pants , and a double Mackinaw coat , tin cloth is also darn tough to beat as shelter cloth coats and that .

Yes it's expensive but worth every penny !

I've been wearing merino wool socks for the past 4 years. They are the most comfortable socks I have ever put on my feet. And bonus, they are USA made and lifetime guaranteed. I cannot wear them in summer as they are too warm but 2/3 of the year they are my go to. I would like more wool clothing as I am so impressed by the socks, but it's pricey.

I hunt in a woolrich coat every fall. Pants are usually some variety of big bill wool depending on temperature and how active I will be. Merino base layers for all seasons.

The Montana Woolen Shop in Bozeman Mt has closed. I think they were open for about 50 years i have sweaters that I have bought from them and use all fall winter and early spring. I use them as an outer shell and are great for any outdoor thing you do.

I rock a wool filson cruiser jacket, blue & black. Plus traditional wool rich red & black.
Saw lots of green/black in ME. Gotta get one of those.

The Filson coat I talked about above, is built in the same style as the old Woolrich hunting coats but it’s solid green and has a waterproof liner.

It’s got all the zippered pockets, hand warmer pockets, inside security pockets, and even the game bag type pocket accessible from either side in the back, just like the old Woolrich had.

Eh...wot?

Pendleton still makes fantastic wool shirts, coats, and flannel style jackets. While pricey they're top notch

I used to, but the new synthetics are so much better for my application; cold and wet. If wool gets wet on an extended outing, it stays wet the entire trip; that really sucks. Synthetics I can dry easily.

Interesting!!! I never have known mine to get wet. That is one of the things I love about wool outer protection. I love the quietness over any synthetics material. I really dislike a coat that makes noise every time I move an inch. But this is just me and my view of the products.

Snowy. Me too. I love how quiet my wool bibs are when going through the woods.

Waggler, If worn in the rain. They dry fast by the wood stove or in front of a fan.

Agreed^^^^^I have a few Filson products and I love the nastalgia of it, but quite frankly, it doesnt keep me near as warm or dry as newer high quality gear. Now, if theyd make the newer high quality gear in red and black plaid, that would be best of both worlds smile

I've got a Filson Mackinaw Cruiser jacket I wear all winter. I tried various synthetics for several years but finally went back to the Filson. Nothing else works as well for hiking through the wet snowy brush and carrying everything I want in the pockets. I do wear a waterproof down coat over it while on the snowmobile. Also where a Filson wool packers hat. The wide brim keeps the snow from going down your neck and surprisingly does quite bit to keep the ears warm without covering them up. A wool shirt and socks generally completes my wool. I wear synthetic pants that are pretty close to waterproof and the snow doesn't stick to. Unless I am deer or elk hunting, then the wool pants are quieter than anything else and keep you warm even if they get wet. Cockleburs stick to them bad, however, if you are in them. I wear synthetic long underwear unless it hits twenty below or colder. Then I switch the woolies (wool union suit). Not as comfortable, but warm.

Wood stoves and fans are pretty scarce where I would have occasion to wear wool.

Does anything ever get wet in Montana? I mean really wet, like wind driven rain for a week or more straight.
