Pretty rare of my dad to wanna bang steel or shoot paper the man physically cringes when I use a few just to zero in his guns lol . Heck doesn't wanna go to the range with up even I I offer to buy the ammo ! Don't like to "waste ammo' as he always says laugh so was a lil odd that he dropped by out the blue and said he wanted to try out of few of my builds. Said he's watching a .243 soon so broke mine out. That and a few of my AR's he was trying pretty hard not to grin like a 5yr as he was slapping my lil 4" gong around back to back grin good times ..though makes me a lil concerned...maybe my ole man went and hit his head on something got him acting different laugh

My dad used to say the same thing about wasting ammo. Refused to sight in a scope he put on a 308. Said the store bore sighted it. Took it off cause he couldn't hit with it. Used iron sights. Granddad and uncle "wasted ammo" sighting in scopes. Probably shot three or four rounds a year to make sure they didnt need adjusted. I recently gifted my daughter granddads old sako 243. Had 10 full boxes of ammo with it bought in the 60's. Sticker on them said 2.60 or something for price. Granddad and uncle didnt "waste ammo" very often. If there was not meat involved or a chicken killing critter they just did not ever practice or shoot for fun.

Maybe he just wanted to spend some quality time with his son? Or…he thought it might be fun to burn up your ammo instead of his. grin

Either way, I'll bet both of you had a great time doing some shootin!

I'm betting his thought process was like this: "Sure would like to do some shooting today, but I don't want to waste my ammo or have to clean rifles afterward. I know, I'll go see my boy"! grin

You are extremely fortunate, but I am certain that you already know that.

He didn't bump his head. More likely he has become very aware that time waits for no one, and the time is now.

Enjoy your time with him however you can.

X2. Sure does go by too fast, but the memories last.

More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.

as a father I can with reasonable certainty say , I am sure you broke more of his stuff in your life time than he broke of yours.
