That isn't a limit though, right? I looked around today and found 7. I am rather fond of them. All Marlin clip fed, 6 walnut and 1 stainless.

I have nothing clever to put here.

That said, I hardly ever pull mine out anymore.
I prefer my 17 HMR. It is much flatter shooting and more accurate. That little 17 grain polymer tip bullet will do some impressive things to things that you want to be dead.

I had a marlin stainless tube fed bolt gun in .22 mag I took in as partal trade fir an English setter pup. It was a turd untill I found an ammo it liked then it was ok but not impressive in accuracy.

I decided it was to big for squirrel and rabbit and I would take something bigger if going for anything larger intentionally so sold it. Nice gun if I wanted you target coon or fox hunting I would think. Will kill anything and everything in my state with the right shot placement just didn't fill a nitch I needed.

The .22 WMR has undoubtedly killed more deer in southern MO than all centerfires combined.....and 97% with the help of a 12v Q-Beam.

I have a Winchester model 275 22 win mag. Bought it in 64. That was 4 years after a rifle, a pump like the 275, was available after development of the round in 59. Its still fairly accurate considering it being a pump.
Lot of rabbits lost there heads to it in the 60s.

I sold/loaned all 3 to neighbors and/or friends. The 17 HMR is superior in my opinion and my two CZ 452 regular take squirrels at 100 yards or a bit more.

The 22 mag may hit harder but the HMR is more accurate in my experience.

Thanks, yep my .17 is super accurate too but it's just so explosive on squirrels, and it seems like it would be a little light for coyotes out past 50 yards

you try the holllowpoint ammo? the v-max's are explosive, I have. taken squirrels, turkeys, groundhogs, coyotes, and several deer with thee hp loads. have done the same with the 22 mag with 50 gr. ammo.
the HP's perform well, do not blow up and will exit coyote sized game.

No, all I have are the Varmint Express V-max. I'll have to try out some hollow points!

I've had a marlin 25m .22mag since I was 9, 35 now, and it is a tack driver! My go to all around take a walk/throw it in the truck just in case gun. Can't tell you the amount of critters that gun has killed. The stock and forensic are actually discolored right where my cheek and hand rest from being used so much. Mine love the CCI 40gr jacketed hollow points

Without going into details, I’ve killed three moose with a .22 mag single six. I also have a 10/22 mag that I love. Did a jack leg trigger job on it years ago and ended up with a 6 oz trigger pull. Loved that but would occasionally get a three shot burst! Finally bought a decent drop in trigger assembly and have been happy with that. Shoots about 1.5 MOA at 100 yards.

Those Marlin bolt actions were surprisingly accurate for their price point. Only gun I've ever had stolen was a Marlin 22 mag I got as a graduation present. Off the top of my head, I own four rifles and two pistols in the caliber. Both pistols and one rifle are switchable cylinder revolvers that will shot both 22 mag or 22 lr depending on cylinder installed (one pistol I don't own a 22 lr cylinder for). There isn't much for target or benchrest style guns made in 22 mag, unlike the long rifle, so yes you can find more accurate 22 lr guns out there. But for just your run of the mill, walking around style guns, the 22 magnums seem to be every bit as accurate as the 22 long rifles, if not more so. They do have issues making them function reliably in semi-autos. I would steer clear of most semi-auto 22 magnums. I do own a Magnum Research 10/22 clone in 22 magnum with a carbon fiber bull barrel. Nice light gun and extremely reliable, I can not remember a single failure in a few thousand rounds. Never got the accuracy I wanted out of it though, 1 1/2 inches at a hundred yards is about all I have been able to get out of it.
The 22 magnum is an absolutely deadly gun on game, in the field it performs all out of proportion to what the ballistics are on paper. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything in North America with it (with proper ammo, of course). A hundred yards or a little better is about what I would be comfortable using it for on coyotes, not that it won't kill them farther, but it starts to drop and wind starts to effect it past there quite a bit, you would need to know your drop and have time to range the coyote and adjust, and hold for wind. Coyotes often don't give you that kind of time.
Where a 22 lr outshines it is in ammo prices and availability, and in a pistol the magnum is an ear breaker.

And yeah, I would say the magnum is overkill and would rough on squirrels for the table.

Actually my favorite in 22 mag. Amazingly accurate for an iron sighted lever action rifle.
