The first picture is from 2/14/1978. It is the first coyote snared in NJ in modern times, and one of the first few trapped in New Jersey. Caught in a fox snare at a bait. One had been trapped in Warren County in 1967 (and is mounted in the Space Farms museum), but it appears to be a western coyote that someone had as a "pet" and released. Remember back in those days having a wild animal was not illegal. Just 2 years later in the 1980-81 season I caught 18 so they moved in and reproduced quickly. In the early 1980's there was a litter of coyotes in a field about 2 miles from my house and she had 10 pups, as Linda, the kids and I would go down there to watch them play just before dark. I caught a bred female in 1981 that had 9 pups in her. Litters like that will expand a population in a hurry.

Heaviest coyote I ever caught, 58 pounds on a certified scale.

Hard to see but this coyote has no right front leg. It was off right at the body line and healed up nicely. I am guessing it was from a shotgun slug fired by a deer hunter. She had raised pups.

Yea we was rich, my take home pay in 1982 was $70.50 a week (plus a house to live in). That's a 7 day work week from 7AM til 8-9 PM (summer) 7AM til 6PM (winter). My trapping money kept me, the wife and my 3 kids afloat at that time.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....
