For those that use a pod or stick for a rest when hunting is a one leg/stick okay or do you recommend a two leg stick for a rest. Will a one pole pod work as good. I have a chance to pick one up.

Vangaurd scout I have a chance to get for a few $'s. It is a mono stick and I would guess a two or three leg rest would be better but the mono I was wondering if it is okay and can rest fine without moving around while sighting in on a big game animal.

Mono pods are better then offhand, good for quicker shots especially if you have the chance to need to move around Prefer a double bipod , but built a set of euro style quad sticks after seeing some of my friends across the ponds set up... gives you a rear support as well as the front for when you need a steadier shot though you can always just keep the back set folded ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-34110-256843-img_20240517_190630255.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-34110-256844-screenshot_20240517_210133.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-34110-256845-c4a5d1dd4b793829efc1ae45382ddff9.jpg) Takes all of 10min with a drill to make a set

In addition to shooting sticks, you may want to look at barricade bags like the PRS guys use. Throw one of those down on just about anything and bang away. Or use your rifle sling.

Some great advice and products I appreciate your views and choices. I might consider adding on the to of my hiking pole to be a shooting mono stick as well. I always use a pole when hunting or being in the high country for many reasons. You have to pack light in this country so I will see if I can figure out a way to attach a V/Notch on top of stick for that purpose and it maybe one less then I need to pack in miles.
I will contemplate my options. Mono would not be as steady as two or three legs that is understandable.

Snowy, I've used a set of these for 30+ years of hunting in the west. https://chuckhawks.com/steady_stix.htmLight weight. You can adjust height by simply adjusting the width of the legs. I did have to replace the shock cord once, but when not in use I do not fold up for storage. I carry these in my hand when hunting, but also keep a short bipod attached to the rifle for prone shots when available.
