Hey gang. I recently bought the FAMF from Oklahoma. Great tool. Had to run it against a crowbar to dull the blade a little bit.

Am finally figuring out how to use this tool without making holes. Am tanning my own beaver, wolf, otter, marten, fox, mink, etc. question I have is what do you do when the Foredom tool accidentally grabs a big bunch of hide and stops itself? How do you get it going again?

Last night my foredom tool got bound up. I shut the machine off, unplugged it, cleaned up the hide and hair around the arbor till the blade spun good again. Only problem was the metal thing coming out of the shaft wasn’t spinning anymore. Do I need to fix something at the machine level where the shaft meets the machine?

I googled my question but there isn’t a video out there that answers my question.

Nvm. I found the problem. I opened up the sheath at the base of the machine and noticed that the shaft coil thing broke. Went to Foredom.com and ordered the necessary shaft parts.

I fleshed my wolf hide with a beam and sawdust initially but this foredom tool mini-flesher really took the rest off and thinned the hide on the neck, head, and legs. Just gotta make sure I keep the hide tight next time.

You might find that your tool works much better on a salted and pickled skin. The skin won't be nearly as grabby. You will have a much better feel for what the tool is doing.
I'm assuming this tool of your work on the same principle as a tanners/taxidermist fleshing machine.

The demo videos looks like he is doing a salted, nearly dry deer hide. I would think keeping a furbearer hide as tight as possible would be critical to success using that tool.
Several years ago I looked at a similar tool, but it was sort of like an electric men's shaver. It was hand-held and a round head, but you held it 90 degrees to the pelt, and just put it to the pelt and pushed or pulled it up and down the pelt, with fat and gristle falling away. The demo video had a guy doing a black bear hide, and did the whole thing in about 20 minutes. That hide was perfect when he was done.
I wanted one in the worst way, but was almost $3000.00.
At the time, myself, my son, and a couple of friends were working the bears pretty hard, and also doing beaver control, and I came very close to buying, but ended up "Doing The Dexter" instead.
A couple dozen bears, and an equal number of beavers later, I should have ponied up.

Just doing what I want now.

I use one for thinning deer capes for taxidermy. IMO POS and wish would have bought real fleshing machine years ago. Only good thing I have to say about them is you get good at sowing capes. Been looking for a high quality used machine but not out there. Even new ones are hard to find.
