A few days ago we saw a kitty outside the clinic with what appeared to be a broken leg. They all asked me if I had a cage trap so I brought one and set it up at lunch time. Sifted dirt on the cage bottom entrance, stabilized it with a rebar stake, and covered with a little cardboard and some boughs. Put in some canned food and some stinky kinda treats (pill pockets!) and within a half an hour, the kitty was caught!
She was scared at first but she is real friendly. Microchipped and appears spayed. Upon further examination, it looks like her foot is merely deformed. She can walk well on it.
We got a hold of microchip company and left her owner a voicemail.

Now who is so bad???

This cat couldn’t catch fleas with that poor paw[/quote]

Many years ago my grandpa was swathing barley right next to the farm. He hit a cat that he couldn't see. The cat came rolling out from under the swather and started towards the trees. He could see it was hurt pretty bad so he tried to catch up and put it out of it's misery but was unsuccessful. A month later the cat showed up minus it's left front leg. The shoulder blade and all was gone. We just let nature take it's course and that cat lived for another ten years and raised 1-4 kittens every year all on her own. We never fed cats, they had to earn their keep by keeping the rodents in check.

Good job Smasho. we had to put our last weiner dog down in January. But, in November my wife was at our sons house and he thought he heard a baby crying. so he and his maw opened the back door to find a tiny cat, soaking wet from a rain storm, screaming her head off. She had a skinned up face just above her nose and a hole in each ear. she was tiny and malnourished. I took her to the vet the next morning and she only weighed 1.5 pounds, the old fart Vet thought she was most likely about 2 months old. We got her wormed and shots. Then put the food to her. she is now spayed and pretty much grown. she went into her first estrous cycle when according the the Vets calculations she was about 6.5 months old. After spaying her, he said she is most likely 8-9 months old as most cats dont have their first heat cycle until 8 months. either way she is a beautiful tortoise shell calico, she is healthy and an absolute hoot. We trappers are far more sensitive to the needs of animals both tame and wild than any fruitcake PETA fool breathing good air. US SPCA as well.

This is true. If I was on safari out in Africa with my mother-in-law and saw a starving lion I would nudge her out of the jeep in a heartbeat.
