have them that can't really speak English well come into work driving a rig. Biden pushed programs they basically just gave them cdl's from what a trucker was telling me last week. There is still a DOT regulation that says you must speak and read English fluently to drive a big truck. Its not being enforced now. That may change. The big freight companies are so desperate for drivers, they have set up driving schools in states that allow their instructors to administer the exam. Everyone passes. Automatic transmissions are in their trucks. Shifting a truck tranny is not like shifting a pickup tranny. No synchronizers. without going into detail it takes awhile to learn. So with automatics 8-10 hours of actual drive time and they have a license. Most of them did not drive in their home country. Or very little.

I don't know how true it is bit would not doubt it. We had a similar thing in Illinois a few years back, but they weren't giving CDL's away they were selling them. That not only ended badly for the victims but ended badly for the ones reaping the profits from the CDL's also.

Preach it driver. The company I drive for, after being there 10 years, started getting automatics So that they could increase the pool of applicants in their hiring search. It gets attention when a bunch of kids get killed, then seems to fade. There was a whole bunch of shady crap when they investigated into this guy and the company. I would say 90% of vehicle accidents and road deaths involve semi trucks in my area. Unqualified people driving those big rigs and company hires people just to get them in that seat and to go go go.

My neighbor is spending $6,000 and taking two months to get his CDL. why should it be any different for anyone else.....jk place near me is 4k and 3 or 4 weeks I don't remember. Basically place runs it's on school and main goal I'd to rope drivers in for crap job and hold training cost over their head. I was looking into it knowing truckers are in demand and wanting to het a job I can be home every day and let them know I would be paying up front if I decided to pursue it. Still think about it now and then but the 11 years tell pension, pay and insurance always win out. Add in self driving busses and trucks it may not be in demand like it is in 5 to 10 years. And yet I was still thinking about it again today.
