US drought monitor map is slowly increasing again. US is well ahead of the 5 -year average for planting beans and corn, but now the concern starts for moisture to germinate and grow. Typically early planting brings on higher than average yields, but mositure is needed. Here in WI the rule of thump is that for every day past about the 15th of May yields drop about 1 bushel per day from the optimum.

The fires here sure cranked yesterday (again). I think they are around 40,000 acres with roughly 150 structures lost. We aren't even into lightning season yet!
