So this last fall whilst out and about shooting some squirrels, the sling on my .22 broke. More specifically, the screw holding the front swivel in pulled out of the wood. I finally got around to fixing it up this week, and took a non-conventional approach. I never liked the traditional sling mounting at the bottom of the stock in front and back. It's mediocre for carrying, I find it constantly slides off my shoulder. It worked well for braced shooting, but took some effort to get the length right, and then of course that length wasn't awesome for carrying the rifle. So, I mounted a new sling, in the same fashion as my AR, using a Magpul MS1 sling, which is easily and quickly adjusted for length.





Mounted using Uncle Mike's studs and swivels. It now sits very nicely across my chest for carrying, which I find much more comfortable than on my shoulder, and comes right up to o shoulder, and can very quickly be adjusted for length for offhand supported shooting using the sling. Much better

did you epoxy the studs when you put them in ?

the uncle mikes studs back out , but fixed with a dab of epoxy on the threads then screw them back in and put right where you want them for direction

Camo off-brand crocs, complete with a couple splashes of blood. Fine footwear for discerning gentlemen.

I agree that many slings for hunting rifles don't work well, come off the shoulder repeatedly, etc. I finally found one that works better by Cabelas, The rubber compound and texture does a decent (but not perfect) job of keeping it in place.

The proposed solution, an AR type carry, doesn't look at all practical to me for a rifle of that length. Maybe it works on flat ground but in hilly country a rifle dangling between my legs looks painful.

I have an M1 30 carbine with that sling arrangement. That baby stays put over my shoulder while driving an ATV.
Knock off Crocs and drywall screws in your stock aside, your concept has merit.

I would love some of those in size 14 wide .

Switched to the rubber slings and they never slide off my shoulder. Put them on all our guns.

This was the old school approach for mounting a sling on the side of a rifle. One of benefits is during carry, the rifle lays flat on it's side.

My weapons cache is pretty well set, but if I could lay my hands on a really nice Mauser like that in the video, I might expand it one more. They were an engineering marvel and work of art.

I have that same exact pair. mine just have oil and grease not blood I like them so much I have those and a black pair.
