Was looking at the May memes and saw the one about the Gulf of America and the Mexican Navy and immediately thought of this recent article:

Unfortunately it appears that two were killed and several injured on-board the training vessel.

With 160 foot mast and 135 foot bridge, boat should have been nowhere near the bridge. Training vessel? Who trained the captain?

Motor failure? When did that motor problem develop? If this was the first time, sounds fishy. Like same excuse every kid who crashes a car uses.......I swerved to miss a deer. Same excuse the cargo ship used when it hit and took down the bridge in Baltimore. That one still hasn't been explained.

I watched some videos, they claim it lost power soon after leaving the dock, but it was also drifting quite fast, I don't think the tide and wind would have affected it as much as it did, My guess it didn't lose power, more like it was stuck in reverse after backing out of the berth, to move like it did, and backed into the bridge, which it wasn't supposed to go under anyway.

Why the anchor wasn't deployed is a question, but there probably wasn't time, as was why the accompanying tug couldn't get a line on it to at least slow it down.

The crew was lined up for the display and probably wasn't ready to respond to any emergency....

The current in East River in that particular area is no joke. Trust me. I know I’ve docked there several thousand times across from Pier 17 that vessel to my understanding never intended to go under the bridge. He was going out to sea however I’m gonna blame this one on the Tug/push boat for not maintaining contact with that vessel. The river in that area is tidal and trust me during a flood tide. It can be screaming. They picked the wrong time to depart from Pier 17 in my opinion a little more research would’ve gone a long way for that Capt. and crew.
