I forgot to ask if you tested the alternator? If you have good batteries it’ll crank over strong, but will act up when it’s running and show low voltage if the alternator isn’t making any juice

I had one from that era that i replaced all the things everyone had mentioned and it still had a problem. Cycle the glow plugs and it would always start in the barn. Get out in a pasture and it would spin but never pickup the fuel and actually start.

I ended up with a claim at a diesel shop and after looking at the building damage the manager said as many miles as I had on it that it likely had low compression which could be over come with a souped up starter that wound the flywheel quicker.

Worked like a charm.

Will do.Batteries have been charging for 10 hours now and there still drawing 10 amps- I don’t ever remember seeing that happen.Batteries were both new last fall.

So I replaced the lift pump which wasn’t the problem but has been leaking for many years and tried blowing air into fuel tanks and it turned out the fuel tank selector valve wasn’t allowing fuel to come through.Got the valve replaced and still won’t start so swapped the cam sensor and found a broken wire.Got the wire temporarily soldered together and it fired up.The volt gauge turned out being the background cardboard pressing down on the indicator so I hot glued it up a little. The fuel gauge seemed to be controlled by the selector valve and that’s straightened away also.So if you think your the only one that has 3 or 4 things go wrong at the same time your not.
