I have a spot on the inside of my left foot , they are calling it a diabetic ulcer although my A1C is not a concern and all my other blood numbers are good
saw my DR for it last week , he tells me use this antibiotic ointment , re-dress 3x a day and see you in 2 weeks
I seem to have very bad lower leg circulation for a guy who can walk all day long. that is hereditary
well I went to change the dressing and as I am getting my sock off I am like , why is my sock soaked with blood on the heal got the sock off , bandage is soaked , pull that back and it is just running out of my foot apparently a vein next to my ulcer went
press the gauze back on and reach for paper towel , hold a wad of that on and it is soaking through , grabbed a pack of roll gauze and some gauze pads I had them near by because I was setting down to change it any way , gauze , paper towel , roll gauze , holding pressure with one hand and opening packages with my teeth and other hand
the PA actually asked me who did the first aid job , he thought it looked good , and it worked I had quit bleeding by the time I reached the ER
the up side is , they did an xray and ultrasound and I have the referral I probably should have gotten from my general practitioner 2 years ago to a vein and circulation clinic. hoping they can roto rooter some thing to get my circulation up.
because this foot sore thing is really slowing down my lifestyle in a bad way.
I have fishing ,gardening , trapping and hunting to do

Pete, have the same problem, been dealing with it since last June. A1C is great, sugar control is very good, but it's the circulation is bad. changing dressing 2-3 times a day. tried soft cast wraps with zink oxide for a few weeks, ulcer heals up & after a day or so, ulcer is back. was in hospital a few times with cellulitis in the past. did all the ultrasounds & seen a vascular Dr. Here, a year later, still the same. best of luck with it.

If you had your own hyperbaric oxygen chamber, it would help that heal up, it's one of the issues it is approved for Chamber Drs say it helps at least 130 things

Have you considered compression socks? I had a pre-surgery physical for a hernia operation and was told I had poor circulation in my legs. My doctor recommended compression socks to improve the circulation. It really has seemed to help. Ask your doctor.

While my broken femur was healing while in hospital I had a small ulcer on my heal. The way they treated it was a foam bootie and let the air heal it. They told me do not put anything on it. Went away.

Went away. I told my primary care I was leaving it open to the air to let it heal , he said no cover it use the prescribed ointment and fresh gauze 3x a day the ER doc prefers ace bandaged type wrap over the gauze pad and gave me 3 reusable ones I can wash and keep using he was all about the get the circulation better makes it better , so we will see , following instructions although pushing my wife around the UW Hosp today for all sorts of tests she got in on the clinical trial to try and slow the cancer every time we stop I put the leg up

Mac thanks , I take a picture of it every day to track progress , back to ER if it goes bad ER doc seemed to like the pictures tracking progress , he added one of his own pictures to the file hoping vascular can help me out to increase flow got to get ready for ditch chicken season so I can put on the miles following the dog.

I have been told I'm "Marginally" diabetic, and control it it just by kinda trying to watch my diet, but any type of wound/injury on my legs from the knee down takes FOREVER to heal, and occasionally takes special effort.. Like the time I had to wear one of those stupid big boot things, and it tore a 1-1/2" hole in my skin on the ankle, and after several MONTHS of trying, they had to go with the "Peanut butter" Placenta paste anti-biotic, that really fixed it in a flash.

I have heard of it , my biggest problem is getting the circulation up , the PA at the ER said ace bandaged and keep wrapping to keep the blood flow up and that helped me get back to where I can get a compression sock on to increase blood flow out of the leg. he also said try and keep it up or not stand so much , I have been standing 12+ hours a day for about 2 decades , I am now sitting a lot more standing kept my back good , but created a lot of pressure on the leg veins and the blood clot made a mess as well. all my issues are mostly in the blood clot leg. hoping if they map out the veins and arteries in that foot they can find a good way to get the flow increased so that I am not just dealing with issues for the rest of my life.
