Just wondering if this hot summer weather has an adverse effect on catches. I have traps on three different properties and haven’t had a catch in almost a month. Should tactics be different in this heat?

Yes, it does but more importantly we are in pup season so area they cover will be greatly scaled back to near the den and they are increasingly skittish near the den. Assuming you're after coyote. Also baits can be problematic and not attracting more ants than critters. Urine is your friend, that and lure.
Beaver just don't like heat and once dispersal is over and they've settled in for the summer they move only as needed to eat. Castor loses the draw it held during dispersal, it'll still work just don't expect them to be traveling from miles around. Blind sets on travel routes near the dens are my go to but at the risk of spooking so tread carefully.

If your coyote trapping yes. Travel routes are different in summer than in winter and with pups they don't stay don't stay in one place for long, hunt in different spots for a few days then pack up and move to a whole different area. Bugs enjoy your bait/lure as well, fire ants seem to just move to sifted dirt sets and build a mound on them, lol. PLUS for an added bonus you get 2 inch's of rain every afternoon to wash everything away.

Beaver only move about 40 yards from their den a night, repair dams every 3 days, don't respond to castor, etc, etc. Basically it's the worst time of year to trap!

Young of the year make easy prey for coyotes this time of year. They don't have to range far to find a meal.
