Our highway roadkill clean up crew goes out every 4-5 days.. Are castor glands still usable after the animal is sitting dead for a few days or does it somehow waste away? What else can I use from these roadkill beaver carcasses? Again. They will be already dead and sitting out in the roadway and ditches for a few days.

I grabbed a mink that got hit on the road yesterday, he wasn’t there when I was going to work, but he was when I was heading back, and it was a big buck that looked to be intact, so I grabbed him because I was curious. It wasn’t worth the trouble. The camp dog was interested in the gland smell though lol

Castor should be still OK after several days. If the beaver is rotten and smelling fowl I wouldn't want to harvest it out.

BTW, I usually don't skin my beaver for several days in cooler weather. From roadhit beaver the only thing I would want to save is the castor.

I have done it and the castor seems fine.
