pickling salt will preserve meats. I'm not sure about the amount needed, because I haven't tried it.

Will animals actually eat meat that's been pickled with this salt?
A animal miss's the trap and gets the bait only to find it's not fit to eat won't fool with it again, why I like to use something they will eat and come back for more should I miss them the first time around.

LOL J, country ham is preserved with salt and you probably like that since you're a good old country boy. My dog loves it, but I have to be careful about how much of it he eats.

Thanks Paul. Iwas just wondering cause we have tons of this stuff left from canning veggies. I'll try it and let you know what happens.

 God Bless

Sure it would Max. Just like Asa said mite have to double the dose. But pickling salt seems cheaper to me.

Its not about price, the reason plain pickling salt is used for canning pickles is that it keeps the pickles firm. When iodized salt is used the pickles become mushy. Same with chunk baits, fish, etc. Also, when making canine baits the iodine in the salt might possibly compromise the baits value. Pickling salt is cheap and can be found at any grocery store. Asa
