We call them swamp irises. Grow on the edge of water here in Pa.

I had to download Google lens to try and figure out what it was. Yellow Flag Iris is what it said it was CTRAPS. Probably the same thing you are seeing Bigbrownie, I took these pictures this morning here in Southeast PA.

It is a non-native and considered invasive. Also, all parts of the plant are poisonous.

I thought it might be some sort of invasive cattail, which is why I was trying to figure out what exactly it was.

We have the blue ones we called swamp iris, I think they're native, never saw the yellow ones here.

Yellow invasives are a big problem here. Dig them out and destroy if you can.

Just FYI, there are a few apps for your phone that identify most every plant including trees. I'm not a big phone or App guy (I actually despise most of it) but it's the best phone feature I've found. The App has you take a picture and it analyses is with tons of information about that plant/tree.

I used Google Lens Calvin. I'm not big on apps either but had to download the Google app to use Lens. It actually made a correct ID.

I think they are different plants. Yellow Flag Iris is an invasive and Blue Flag Iris is a native to eastern US.
