I've noticed that any good ol' western worth its salt has a bar fight. Savell speaks reverently of them...anybody been in a real bar fight? I've never been in one.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

One time in Birmingham Alabama when I was in my 20s. Learned real fast Yankees don't talk to southern wimmen in a bar. Cops came, no one got arrested though.

Got into a LOT of fights when I was still in the Marine Corps, many of which were at bars. They were a great time when I was young and dumb, but now that I'm a little older and still dumb, they sound like less fun. I fight quite a bit at work, I get my fill there.
Go outside and do stuff.

I recall me and another guy breaking one up (one on one, not a real brawl) in a loggers bar in Forks one time. This was back when cell phones were a new thing and most regular people didn't have one. Unbeknownst to us, some out of town chick had called the cops. The other guy who helped break it up and I were sitting at the end of the bar having a drink on the house when the cop walked in. One of the guys in the fight was at the other end of the bar and was instantly leaning on his hand, hiding his face, I don't remember where the other guy was, but he was out of sight. Cop walked straight up to us and asked, "so, was it a good fight?" Guy with me replied, "not really." Cop stood around and bsed for a couple minutes and left. As soon as he walked out the door the guy with me looks at the bartender and asks, "why did he come straight to us and start asking questions?" Bartender laughs and tells us to look at ourselves. Looking down I realized I was wearing a white t shirt and had blood all over it from the one guys bloody nose, both of us had more blood on us than the guys who were actually in the fight.

Hard to believe there are grown men who never got in a nose bending contest when in their teens early twenties. I don't frequent bars much anymore maybe its changed?

I was the starting center and middle linebacker on our high school football team beginning my sophomore year. I also had two older brothers who both had played football. We were somewhat “known” in the surrounding towns and I never went looking for trouble and it didn’t come looking for me so I came out of my younger days not getting into any fist fights. It also helped that I was dating a cheerleader whose Mom and Dad owned a bar in a neighboring town that I started bartending at 21 years old. Nobody wants to fight the bartender in fear of being banned.

Well, I do recall I broke up a girl fight in a bar once. I had blood all over me but none of it mine!

I was a brawler and have been involved in many bar fights. Was gifted with fast hands, as well as good wrestling skills, so for many years was more than willing to stand up to whomever was the tough guy loudmouth. Most, though not all, were resolved with a couple of quick jabs to the face. Then one night a guy was getting into a cussing fit with the bartender, (a petite gal that was also a friend of mine). She was trying to get him out of the bar, and he was not going. I told him that he had to leave, or I would help him find the door. Now understand, I am about 6' tall and at the time, weighed about 175 pounds. This guy was probably 10 years my junior, around 6'-2' or 3" and guessing 200 pounds, and very fit. He accepts my challenge and invites me outside. Fair enough. We get outside the door, and he spins around and drills me right in the mouth, punching a lower front tooth right through the skin below my lower lip. Nearly drops me. I manage to get him to the ground and tangle his arms up, then get him in a headlock, with one arm up alongside his head. he is now very vulnerable. Suddenly my left leg is being pulled on, and see a pit bull clamped to my lower pant leg, (thankfully not my ankle), tugging both him and I across the parking lot! Well, I just hang on to the guy, trying to get a few licks in, and stay on top of him. Then two other guys manage to get the dog off my leg, and I let go of the guy. We both get off the ground, huffing and puffing, when one of his buddies gets between us, trying to calm the situation down, and get his friend over to the rig they arrived in. That's when I see the pit bull in the back of the truck, chained to the cack of the cab! I learn later that the guy put himself through college boxing in smoker matches all through Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Explains why I didn't even see his first punch coming. My mouth hurt for a couple weeks, and my lower lip looked like Bubba. And road rash on one elbow that hurt for weeks. I then thought what might have happened if the guy's friend had decided to join the fight, rather than break it up, or the dog had gone for more than my leg. Or one of them upped the ante to a weapon. Could have been very ugly. That was pretty much the end of my days being a volunteer, un-paid bouncer. *As a side note, this was actually a pretty decent bar where friends gathered for a couple drinks after work, not a gritty, roughneck type place. Rarely went to a bar to get drunk, just socialize for an hour. Although my youth was a different story for a while.*
Just doing what I want now.
