It seems like older folks are not interested in good hearing, more and more I find myself being around people that can’t hear for beans it drives me nuts in some ways but it can be funny at times. I can hear a gobbles a long ways off but the people standing next to me don’t pick up on it.

My wife has hearing aids but still comes up the most ridiculous things that I never said or that don’t make a lick of sense it makes my head hurt. LOL Her first reaction is to say “what” even if she hears the questions it’s just a habit. Hunted with a buddy that was real bad I figured it out when we went elk hunting. He had a once in a lifetime archery park tag for elk one of 4 park tags for the whole state a big deal. He was out there for 2 weeks with no luck I had a trapping booth at a GFP event I was committed to so I went out mid month.

We were walking in the first day I’m talking softly about what he’s been seeing/hearing my talking goes on for about a half mile he looks over at me and goes did you say something? 3 elk had just bugled that he never heard, I said I just heard 3 2 on that ridge and one over there. That’s when I knew he was hearing challenged so I picked up a handful of smaller rocks to get his attention when needed after that.

We went in that area the next day and he killed a nice bull that morning a very interesting hunt. I often wonder how many bulls did he not know he was even close to those 2 weeks. Even with the advanced hearing aids available people just don’t wear them it’s has to be stressful for everyone concerned communication wise.

I have 2 friends, who both need and have hearing aids, but don't wear them. The conversations we we have are not the same for them and me. I say one thing and they generally parse it out that I said something else. It can make for some strange conversations. It can also be pretty frustrating.

My hearing is great except when I have to compete with other chatter like in restaurants or people that don't enunciate their words.

I’ve work construction all my life and that’s one thing I take seriously. I’ve always wore hearing protection . The last hearing test I did they asked what I did for a living when I told them they was surprise than I could hear that good . They said I don’t know what you’re doing for protection but keep it up .

Drifter is mostly deaf. He has hearing aids but does not wear them. I don't find it overly frustrating, but once in a while do. I DO find it humorous at times what he hears compared to what I said, lol. Sometimes it's completely off the wall lol. This morning I made the comment to him that apparently so and so lied. He said.... he died? NO, lol no no no he did not die. LOL.

My hearing is so-so. When people aren't facing me I have a very difficult time hearing them. If there is background noise such as a bar or restaurant, forget it.
Tried hearing aids and it didn't really help. It's very frustrating to me. I try to avoid indoor places with background noise. I also stare at the person talking to me, and look at their mouth. This helps me a lot.

I have cicadas chirping in my ears 27/7, and yet can still hear pretty good...I think, lol
but restaurants and especially dialog on tv competing with the background music is tough... I also say what? when miss Daisy asks a question, gives me a few more seconds to come up with a response... grin

I had an appointment with an audiologist back in late Winter. When I was in the soundproof room, I could hear pretty loud ringing, that I can't hear if their is ambient noise. My hearing tested fine anyway.

I do my best to preserve what I have left, I wear earplugs at work everyday, no exceptions. Years of running zipped up saws have taken their toll

We have our hearing tested at work every year. I pass but I have a lot of trouble hearing conversations if there is a lot of background noise. Nurse said my hearing loss is in the range that most women talk at. Told my wife that and she said that's BS. grin

I think there are beneficial genetic reasons for that, to prevent men from hearing what women say once the women hit menopause and become nearly unbearable. grin

I have had poor hearing for many years. Last deer season I made an unplanned trip to a wildlife shooting range, but had no hearing protection. In thirty minutes I destroyed most of my remaining hearing.

My left ear is not as good as my right ear from shooting rifles in the past. I have an alarm clock that is at a frequency it won’t pick up well but I can hear a turkey at an unbelievable distance.

If there is no background noise I can hear pretty good. But my hearing is not that great, I struggle with direction and with background noise it is almost a lost cause. My wife talks quietly (she claims not) and is in a tone or frequency I struggle with hearing. The frustration isn't a one way street, I get very frustrated when I don't hear what she said and say, "what" and she won't repeat herself. I think the tone she speaks at is genetic, I don't even bother trying to hear what her father says if there is any background noise, it is a lost cause.

I do my best to save my hearing, I always wear ear plugs when running a saw, target shooting, am around equipment, etc. It still takes its toll, just a lot slower than if you don't wear protection. It isn't really feasible to wear ear plugs when hunting, although I do sometimes wear the electronic ones, so my ears take some abuse there, particularly guiding. It amazes me how I can hear things out hunting that people with much better hearing than me don't hear, my hearing isn't that great, but I know what to listen for.

I have the same struggle with mine. She gets so mad and tells me I’m not listening, and that in turn irritates me, because I was listening. But then she doesn’t want to repeat what she said, so I can only assume it wasn’t that important to begin with. And she does the same to me in reverse, but I know I’m pretty soft spoken, so I will repeat myself if it was important.

I have decent hearing but I get irritated with people that like to mumble or trail off when talking. My uncle was a .pro at that when he was alive. It is a pain to try and talk to them most of the time unfortunately.

I told my wife that I can only hear so many words per day...

it's not MY fault, if she chooses to use them all up during the first fifteen minutes of the morning.
