It seems like older folks are not interested in good hearing, more and more I find myself being around people that can’t hear for beans it drives me nuts in some ways but it can be funny at times. I can hear a gobbles a long ways off but the people standing next to me don’t pick up on it.
My wife has hearing aids but still comes up the most ridiculous things that I never said or that don’t make a lick of sense it makes my head hurt. LOL Her first reaction is to say “what” even if she hears the questions it’s just a habit. Hunted with a buddy that was real bad I figured it out when we went elk hunting. He had a once in a lifetime archery park tag for elk one of 4 park tags for the whole state a big deal. He was out there for 2 weeks with no luck I had a trapping booth at a GFP event I was committed to so I went out mid month.
We were walking in the first day I’m talking softly about what he’s been seeing/hearing my talking goes on for about a half mile he looks over at me and goes did you say something? 3 elk had just bugled that he never heard, I said I just heard 3 2 on that ridge and one over there. That’s when I knew he was hearing challenged so I picked up a handful of smaller rocks to get his attention when needed after that.
We went in that area the next day and he killed a nice bull that morning a very interesting hunt. I often wonder how many bulls did he not know he was even close to those 2 weeks. Even with the advanced hearing aids available people just don’t wear them it’s has to be stressful for everyone concerned communication wise.

My hearing is great except when I have to compete with other chatter like in restaurants or people that don't enunciate their words.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Drifter is mostly deaf. He has hearing aids but does not wear them. I don't find it overly frustrating, but once in a while do. I DO find it humorous at times what he hears compared to what I said, lol. Sometimes it's completely off the wall lol. This morning I made the comment to him that apparently so and so lied. He said.... he died? NO, lol no no no he did not die. LOL.
Proudly banned from the NTA.
Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

My hearing is so-so. When people aren't facing me I have a very difficult time hearing them. If there is background noise such as a bar or restaurant, forget it. Tried hearing aids and it didn't really help. It's very frustrating to me. I try to avoid indoor places with background noise. I also stare at the person talking to me, and look at their mouth. This helps me a lot.

I have cicadas chirping in my ears 27/7 x2 I had an appointment with an audiologist back in late Winter. When I was in the soundproof room, I could hear pretty loud ringing, that I can't hear if their is ambient noise. My hearing tested fine anyway. Keith

My left ear is not as good as my right ear from shooting rifles in the past. I have an alarm clock that is at a frequency it won’t pick up well but I can hear a turkey at an unbelievable distance.

If there is no background noise I can hear pretty good. But my hearing is not that great, I struggle with direction and with background noise it is almost a lost cause. My wife talks quietly (she claims not) and is in a tone or frequency I struggle with hearing. The frustration isn't a one way street, I get very frustrated when I don't hear what she said and say, "what" and she won't repeat herself. I think the tone she speaks at is genetic, I don't even bother trying to hear what her father says if there is any background noise, it is a lost cause.
I do my best to save my hearing, I always wear ear plugs when running a saw, target shooting, am around equipment, etc. It still takes its toll, just a lot slower than if you don't wear protection. It isn't really feasible to wear ear plugs when hunting, although I do sometimes wear the electronic ones, so my ears take some abuse there, particularly guiding. It amazes me how I can hear things out hunting that people with much better hearing than me don't hear, my hearing isn't that great, but I know what to listen for.

She gets so mad and tells me I’m not listening, and that in turn irritates me, because I was listening. But then she doesn’t want to repeat what she said, so I can only assume it wasn’t that important to begin with. And she does the same to me in reverse, but I know I’m pretty soft spoken, so I will repeat myself if it was important.
