Let the Celtic games begin. June 20th is my first comp of the season. The MidSumarr Muskell at the Norskedalen Mid Summer festival in Coon Valley, WI. Should be a really great show. Norskadalen

I am fairly certain I would hurt myself
lately I seem to be in the I can do that camp and a few hours later I am in the , that wasn't such a good idea camp.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

There's been some hard lessons in proper technique, specifically bracing with the LOWER core. I've had a weak, injury prone back since I was a young teenager, and this has helped me immensely. Yep, my back is sore, but not painful. My wife just shakes her head when I lay out my workouts. Saturday was log press, 3x3 at 155#, stone carry, 185# for 100 feet, twice and stone to shoulder, 165#, 3x in 57 seconds.

Built myself a "log" out of some materials I had in the shop and garage. Finished weight is 85# empty. Should be a good addition to my training arsenal. Nice! One of my son's lifting buddies has been running a sawmill on the side. Think they just made a timber frame deadlift apparatus like they used at an event last summer. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-2625-259009-1000002633.png) Most of the logs they train/ compete with are steel. I'll have to send them.your pic.

Good stuff! Too bad you're not closer I'd bet my boy would enjoy trying out some of that different equipment. He's working in Tennessee and Kentucky this summer with a few of his powerlifting buddies so he's been back in the gym quite a bit. If he's interested in strongman, have him check out Iron Podium website. It's a listing of strongman comp's all over the nation. I am sure there is something local-ish to where he is at.

I am planning a frame build from some old barn timbers. The neighbor lost a barn in a storm this spring and offered me whatever I wanted.
I would love to make a log out of a solid tree trunk. With a sawmill, I would think you could make an octagon pretty easy, then finish it out by hand. Steel logs are nice, but wood ones just look cooler.
Your boy has a few pounds on me, that's for sure. He's been a SHW since about a year out of high school, lol. There was a group of guys in their 30s and 40s come here from KY for a meet a few years back. They trained in their church basement, real nice crew and some serious lifters.

I am now the heaviest I have ever been, a whopping 185#. I didn't start lifting until I was forty, and not serious lifting til 45. I missed out on the good mass building years.

Always seems like your weight class range has the strongest per pound guys. I mean, the SHW guy move a lot of weight, but they weigh a LOT.
Son started powerlifting young. Went to 100% RAW Worlds at 14 years old. There were folks there in their 80s!!!
Right? And I am on the low end of the weight class. When the 219 guys show up (middle weight is 181 to 220), I know I am getting smoked. I got down to 179 last year, just can't seem to this year. Good things there's a Master's class, LOL. I am still the littlest guy. I hope to be doing this for a god number of years. It really motivates me to work out, and get stronger.
