I lost a plum tree that had constant disease issues. The wood has beautiful figure. What would you make with it? ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-11798-259010-img_5222.jpeg) How would you stabilize it to prevent cracking? Keith

Beautiful piece of wood. Would be a shame to not do something with it.
I don't always carry all my groceries on one arm, but when I do, my keys are usually in the wrong pocket.

knife scales , you could epoxy stabilize them if you don't think the wood is strong enough by it's self
maybe even some revolver grips
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

How much do you have?
I'd seal the end grain and saw it into boards probably about 5/4". Sticker the boards and band them or put a decent amount of weight on top to keep them from warping as they dry. Let them sit a year minimum then have them kiln-dried or let them sit a year and a half and use as is. You can get down to 12-15% moisture content by air drying and 6-9% by kiln drying. I prefer air drying certain woods, especially black walnut.
I'd probably build jewelry boxes out of it, blanket/toy chests if you have enough.
Or you could seal the end grain and cut blocks in half lengthwise. Once it's dried you could have some nice, matching bowls turned out of it.
You don't want to turn an end grain bowl, using the method above results in a much nicer finished product.
Eh...wot?

Guy that logged the woods beside my rent house sprayed a thin wax out of a chemical sprayer on the log ends when I asked why he said it was to keep them from cracking since it was going to be a while befor he had all the logs out and up to hall.
