In the movie Jeremiah Johnson, Bear Claw tells Jeremiah that he "Packed a squaw for 10 years...Cheyenne she were, I lodge poled her at Deadwood Creek and traded her for a Hawken gun."

I've looked all over the internet...what does "lodge poled" mean related to this?

I'm assuming it was the Cheyenne ceremony for claiming, marrying the squaw.

Here are the first two documented uses of the term lodge poling, from George Ruxton's Life in the Far West, published in 1847:

American women are valued at a low figure in the mountains. They are too fine and “fofarraw.”
Neither can they make moccasins, or dress skins; nor are they so schooled to perfect obedience
to their lords and masters as to stand a “lodge-pole-ing,” which the western lords of the creation
not unfrequently deem it their bounden duty to inflict upon their squaws for some dereliction of
domestic duty.

For twenty year I packed a squaw along. Not one, but a many. First I had
a Blackfoot—the darndest [unfaithful woman] as ever cried for fofarrow. I lodge-poled her on Colter’s
Creek, and made her quit.

The second quote, no doubt, was the basis for the line from the movie.

Not quite, more like "keeping her in line"

Lashed to a pole and beaten. Kinda makes my stomach turn and my blood boil. My mom is a squaw (I can say that, if anyone else did, they’re swallowing their teeth)

the context of what you posted makes me think more like a caning, paddling or whipping while hands tied over a lodge pole. a beating to keep them in line.

Yeah Pete, Like AK said, it was a lashing/caning/beating.

Lots of violence in life back then.

Why is squaw offensive??????????????? I am sick of all the pc rules. if you want to thump an old man not much I can do about it. Half as strong now, half the reaction time poor balance. But I aint changing anymore.

It’s like calling a black guy a word they really don’t care for. Except we don’t even use it among ourselves. It’s a term meant to degrade and dehumanize native women. And a lot of the negative behavior associated with that is still alive and well. So around here, them’s fighting words. I’m not upset with you for being ignorant, but now you know.

Squaw is simply the Algonquin word for woman. At some point some white women, when all the Western were coming out, found it offensive and afterwards many people started to believe it was, probably because they were nagged into believing so.

AI using hollywood for definitions of historical phrases, this world is doomed.

I checked some of my other sources tonight. Lodge poling is usually a form of punishment. It is rarely used as a verb for, um, marital relatons. I'll leave it at that.

in so many ways , AI can be a decent finder for documents but it does not read them well

AI will lay out a set of instructions in a synopsis , and the first instruction is literally what the actual document tells you NOT to do

I equate it to calling her a few other choice terms, just one she would find more offensive than being called a female dog or anything else. She and I don’t and never have had a positive relationship, so yes I did refer to her as such. Doesn’t mean I would allow anyone else to. The original meaning of the word and its origins are irrelevant after generations of language evolution and it being used in a negative manner. As is the case for many curses and slurs. The only reason to refer to a woman as a squaw is to differentiate her in a way so as to be lesser than. I’m not trying to argue about this, I don’t care what you call anybody. I’m just explaining how terminology is heard and interpreted among different groups of people. Take that for what it’s worth. Maybe nothing, some people are allergic to views not their own.
