That’s exactly what I thought it was too.

I was looking through a bunch of VHS movies in the tv stand cupboards one day. Came across Deer Hunter and put it in lol.

John Cazale. Best actor you’ve never heard of. Appeared in 5 films all nominated for best picture. I believe he died before The Deer Hunter was released.

He was living with Meryl Streep, who also costarred in the Deer Hunter. He did die of lung cancer before the movie was released.

One of the worst movies I've ever watched. First time I watched it I was pretty young, so I thought maybe I just didn't understand it. Tried it again recently, and it's still awful.

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

I liked the movie. I could really relate to the scenes that were supposed to be Clairton, Pa. I worked in coal mines in the Pittsburgh area in the mid 70s, not far from Clairton and the Mon Valley. The bar scenes, and Slavic Clubs….thats how I remembered them. The wedding in the movie was a Russian Orthodox ceremony, but it could have doubled for a lot of Polish weddings I’ve attended. The movie really did a good job of showing the 1970 mill town culture.

Even the beer was genuine Pittsburgh….Iron City. A friend of mine bought Pittsburgh Brewing , and is really trying to revive the Iron City Beer label.

. I’ll say. It was brewed out in Latrobe, Pa. Arnold Palmer’s home town. Sold it in the little green pony bottles.
