Or will it? Made a rookie booboo a couple days ago. Forgot to cable anchor one of my 330/H stabilizer. It was missing yesterday. I believe a beaver got caught and went deep with the set up. Had another trap just maybe 8-10' away that wasn't touched, so don't believe anyone walked off with it. Hoping it bloats and floats by tomorrow, but seems a lot of weight to bring back up. Gonna try my son's magnet fishing set up, see if I can dredge it up, if the turtles haven't dragged it further out. Don't remember not anchoring a trap before, and of course that's the one that got hit. Hopefully with that much weight (and a neck catch), it's not too far out.
Vinke: Nice video. boat looks pretty handy for the job. I use my Old Town Camper, 15'. Not quite as handy as it has a higher/longer profile, but it works, and carry's more gear.

I had something similar happen. That beaver isn't far and likely straight out from the set. I got a large treble hook, wrapped a duck decoy weight around the shaft and tied some line to it. 10-12 throws and I had the beaver.
No luck with the magnet. Threw it for about an hour. Hopefully it will float up. Also no new activity at the pond, small breaches in dams haven't been fixed and nothing caught. Will kayak out to the lodge and set the entrance tomorrow.
I think it was the May 29 that the trap and stabilizer disappeared. I pulled the rest of my traps on Monday 6/2, with no new activity found. Yesterday afternoon I called the park supervisor to inquire about any new activity. He said no, but....your beaver and trap are floating 15' from the marsh sign. I couldn't get there yesterday, but planned on it being my first stop this morning. Just as I finished my breakfast, the phone rings. A guy is all excited that his son went fishing early this morning and found my trap and stabilizer. He wanted to make sure I got it back and it didn't cause any PR problems, he was a former trapper himself. I couldn't thank him enough and gave his son $20 for getting it, removing the beaver from it, and saving me a bunch of potential grief. So, 7 or 8 days for the beaver to float with my gear. Not a mistake I'll make a second time. They said it was a big beaver, I never saw it.
