Any idea how to get robins from nesting on our outside lights which are underneath our soffit?

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Maybe try putting a radio nearby? Might discourage it if there's a bunch of music constantly playing

Thanks for the reply.

My wife found out they don't like the smell of peppermint so we put some on a cotton ball and the male hasn't been back. Hopefully it works.

As I understand it: The only birds with a sense of smell are Vultures and their cousins the Condors.
Robins are considered Migratory Songbirds and as such are protected under Federal Law.
If you can tear down the nest BEFORE eggs are lain, they will get discouraged and look for another spot. This will likely take several attempts to work.
They make pretty good neighbors, maybe leave them alone?

I’d have to knock down multiple nests. I don’t know if it’s the same bird making the nest or multiple different birds.

If the habitat is right, they’re going to try to nest. I ended up taking the light die and haven’t replaced it yet.

I gave up on tearing the nests out and started putting golf balls in it once they finished it. Has worked well so far in getting them to move to a different location.

We use either the top half of a gallon plastic milk jug or a kid’s sand pail for the beach. Everyone who stops by knows exactly why it’s there and copies our efforts.

Clear soda bottle at my house (wren or phoebe) Don't even notice it once you take the label off.
