Just saw my first low and high tides this past weekend when my son and I went to Newport Oregon. Saturuday morning when we left for the charter boat it was still dark in the mornibg but Sunday morning I got up and while it was getting light out I could see folks out there walking around getting clams and oysters. As it got light out I could see the ground out there. The tide started coming back around 10 am. I wanted to try some surf fishing but checkout was 11 am and my son wanted to get on the road. The chartere boat was productive though, we got halibut, black sea bass , lingcod ,kelpgreenling and my son caught a shark and flounder that managed to get off the hook at the end, the one guy thought it was a thresher shark, that would have been cool to get in the boat. First time seeing the ocean, it was neat, time went far too fast. Also set some crab pots out on our way out Saturday and checked them on our return trip, we got some fresh Dungenuss out of that. Hope to go back one day, if my health allows it, from what they told me August seems like a good time to go

Are those oysters from an oyster farm, or what once was an oyster farm? I know they send oyster seed to Alaska from Washington, but I didn't think they occur naturally in Alaska. It’s one drainage over from where there used to be an oyster farm. They’ve spread and kept reproducing, so there’s a couple good spots nearby.

Hope you got your oyster shucking knife! On the half shell! Let’s go!!!
I have several. But I’ve found a bar wrench works just fine. Everyone makes the mistake of trying to open them from the front, I jab into the hinge and they pop right open
