Good day everyone! This is my first post. I am totally new to trapping. I have always wanted to trap bear and other animals but I grew up in another area that rode the line between suburban and rural, and I never had any peers or family who still trapped.

I see lots of great recommendations for quality live traps

But they're all for full sized varmits.

Does anyone make a live cage mouse trap that doesn't suck? I hate buying garbage that falls apart.
Any recommendations and tips are much appreciated.

Thank you!!

I think Havahart makes one... My Havahart rabbit/possum sized cage trap works great even though it's really old so I bet the mouse ones would work good too.

So I actually looked into them. The Amazon reviews are... questionable. People claim that the quality has gone way down and they're now cheesier

Why would you want to catch mice with a live trap? Snap traps are economical and very effective once you learn where and how to set them.

Years ago, (talking several decades ago), I borrowed a very small aluminum model from the Alaska Department of fish and Game that they used to live-trap voles. I think I wanted it for the same purpose, if memory serves.
It was basically a similar design as a single door Havahart trap but made of sheet aluminum and was probably 2-1/2" square and maybe 10" long. I forget the trigger system, though. Likely a trundle.

Just doing what I want now.

I must not be doing a great job. They are up against walls where I assume mice frequent, but they only seem to be effective in the fall and early winter when rodents attempt to spend more time indoors?

Some people use live mice to feed their animals and stuff such as reptiles so I figured I'd give the live trap a shot. I'm also trying to get the cat to be more effective so I figured if he saw a mouse up close he'd be more effective...

In the past I've had minor success with live traps for varmit, although it's been many years since I've done any, and it was very amateurish

Take a 5-gallon bucket and put some grain in it. Then work out some type of walkway up to the edge of the bucket. I have caught some mice that way.

These ones are pretty durable and catch heaps.
I got 19 mice in one.
I like them because you don’t need to reset them after each catch and there is no fiddly trigger to mess with. [Linked Image]

Looks like the same principal as some swing rod entry pigeon traps. Clever idea modified to work on rodents.

What is the Mfg. name on that trap?
